Would you consider Kefir " good probiotics " ?

Thanks Gayla!

Don't laugh - good probiotics and a bottle of something called Para Sheild.

Go to a health food store and ask. My DH had it for a year and his dr put

him through a lot before I put my foot down and got him on those. It's

clearing up nicely.

I do not know enough about kefir to say what kind of " bugs " are in it and in

what quantities. To make matters simple, I bought a bottle. I would make

sure that whatever it was, kick start the digestive system with a big jump

Neysa,

I too suffer from this problem, however, they are currently checking me for

Crohn's Disease. Dr's advise me to take fiber caplets, any brand. They

work for those that are constipated, but it also helps to add bulk for those

that have diarrhea. It does NOT help with the associated cramping pain.

Has she tried eliminating certain foods to see if perhaps she has any food

sensitivities??

Also, there is a probiotic blend that my Dr. recommended, and it did help

with the diarrhea really well. It's called Flora-Q. She can ask for it at

any pharmacy...and possibly could purchase from a health food store. If she

can't find this, any probiotic blend should help some.

There really isn't much that I know of that helps with IBS....except for

avoiding as much stress as possible, and eating healthy.

HTH a bit,

Candy

Neysa,

Add 3-5 drops of peppermint oil to 10 ml of a carrier oil. I like

virgin coconut oil as it also has inti-inflammatory properties. Apply

it to the abdomen.

Thanks....I kinda like him myself. ;)

> Candy, you say there is little relation between what you eat, with the

> exception of yogurt, and how > you feel?

Yogurt and Cultured Buttermilk. As far as actually making me feel

better....I don't notice much of a difference with my pain level. But it

DOES slow down the diarrhea most times. I guess this is a YMMV type thing.

Where I can eat pizza, for example, someone else may have a terrible IBS

flare up. For me, I can eat pizza today....and do just fine. Next time I

eat pizza, my IBS will flare. I have thus far been unable to identify any

food triggers to my IBS.

> What, in the way of supplements, herbs or oils have you tried?

I've taken probiotic blends, and the last one I tried did help, but it made

me constipated. It was Flora-Q. Doc recommended that I take it only 2 or 3

times per week instead of every day. So, I am in the process of trying this

out. I'll let you know if it works. ;)

> It must be so irritating for people who have spent years searching to have

> other people

> recommend things they have long ago done, in vain.

> That's why i ask.

Well, it really doesn't bother me if folks recommend something that I have

tried before. Because it may have been years ago, and it might help me now.

:) So, any recommendations I get, I try, unless it's something I *just*

tried.

I'm actually starting a journal.....to track my progress. Perhaps if I keep

a very very detailed journal, I might find something 'small' that I have

overlooked all these years. Wouldn't that be so nice??

Talk to you later!

Candy

Dear Candy,

Great idea to keep a diary!

Since you won't be offended, here goes the list of herbal things that I know

have helped other people:

Ground Flax seed

Slippery Elm

Aloe Vera

Una de Gato (Cat's Claw)

Sangre de Drago

The last two are from the rainforest

and are my business.

I would certainly encourage you to

try Slippery Elm first, it is great stuff

and is a fraction of the price.

And, since you have not found food triggers,

we all know there is an emotional component

to IBS.

Please, you have all heard me say this a lot

lately, but it is so amazing, please do look into EFT.

Healing at your fingertips, for free.

How good does it get.

Unless you want to become a therapist

yourself there is little reasonto buy the videos and such.

<Snipped for length>

Ien,

I have tried the slippery elm....didn't particularly care for the taste, and

I didn't notice a difference, but I can try it again. I have drank Aloe

Juice from the Health Food place, and OMG, I think I'd like the taste of

battery acid better. <YUCK!> Couldn't drink enough of the stuff to know if

it would help. I do eat flax seed fairly regularly....sometimes ground,

sometimes not. I've not taken the other two you've mentioned. I will have

to look into them.

I've also taken Valarian and Kava Kava, because both are supposed to help

with anxiety/sleeplessness. Didn't notice a difference in the IBS, but both

helped me to rest. ;)

So far today.....my tummy has cramped a bit, but not terribly bad. And I

splurged and ate pizza last night. I didn't eat breakfast this morning, and

have only snacked on a few things today.

I actually don't do too badly if I consume mostly liquids. ;) But I get

hungry after a while. LOL

Thanks for the suggestions Ien. I will look into those, and if I decide to

try them, I'll give you a shout!

Hugs,

Candy

How long, and how consistently did

you try the slippery elm?

Have you tried " shake and gulp " ?

I take this Fiber drink, and get it down by shaking the contents with some water

in a

12 oz glas jar with a lid. An empty LiteHouse

salad dressing jar. Perfect size.

Gulp it down bravely, add some more water,

rinse the sides of the glass so I get all the

goodies and enough water besides.

Una de Gato comes in a handy capsule form,

if you cannot stand the taste of weird drinks

and tinctures.

But, try slippery elm first, together with EFT,

for a month at least!
