Hi Katherine .. Michelle .. other good folks ..

Lemme give my opinion on a few things you have written below. I did a

bit of snipping. :-)

First .. I am gonna assume that you are a licensed medical practitioner.

I say this because of some of the statements you make below. And I know

that you later said you intended for this post to go private .. but it

did not .. so I must comment on it for the benefit of others. When a

post hits the list its in the public domain .. and the purpose of this

list is to discuss EO and such .. and in many cases to try to dispel

rumors and correct misinformation. Whether or not I'm able to convince

you to accept some of my facts is your choice. And me writing this post

is a matter of me not having a choice. :-)

> The EO's I use are " medicinal grade " , which means instead of 5 drops for

> a recipe, you'd use 2.

There is really no such thing as medicinal grade .. leastwise its not

recognized industry wide. It is used often by some of the Multi Level

Marketing companies (especially Young Living) to hype their products and

as a claim of being unique.

There are two types of Essential Oils .. pure and adulterated. There

are two classes (though I won't fall on my sword to defend that term) of

pure essential oils. High Quality and Less Quality. High Quality would

be when the percentage of chemical constituents ranges in that normal

profile .. or foot print .. that fallible man has determined to be the

ideal profile. A pure oil can be a mediocre oil is .. for example ..

we can have an wild grown Origanum with a carvacrol percentage of less

than 60%. How does this come about? Not due to a mistake by Mother

Nature. Its normally due to greed. Villagers will jump the gun and try

to beat others to the product .. they harvest too soon. It can also

occur due to over distillation.

If an essential oil that has proven therapeutic properties is pure and

the chemical constituents range within an ideal profile .. we could say

its a medicinal grade oil .. IF .. we want to risk having the FDA come

down on us for dispensing medications without a license. Far better and

much safer it is to call that oil Aromatherapy Grade. And this also

distinguishes it from Commercial Grade.

What is Commercial Grade? Its an oil that has been manipulated by man

for a particular purpose .. like 40/42 Lavender .. and many oils used in

perfumery. Sorta made to order.

> They don't need to be refrigerated and can even be left uncapped for years

> without any evaporation. That's because they are very pure.

Even the most pure of the pure don't fit the above category. Some oils

demand refrigeration .. to not do so results in rapid deterioration.

I've written much on that on this list .. dozens of other folks have

too. As for leaving them uncapped .. another valid name for Essential

Oil is Volatile Oil .. meaning .. they evaporate. If they did not then

we couldn't gain benefit from them via sniffing .. or diffusing.

> You definitely don't want to do what I did when I started and that was

> waste money on EO's from 8 different companies that all smelled grassy

> and like alcohol.

The 8 companies you chose to purchase from were less than quality providers.

> The evaporated, didn't absorb into my skin but left an oily residue on

> top and they were terrible.

As I said .. ALL Essential Oils will evaporate .. and exposing them to

air (oxygen) results in rapid oxidation. As for absorbing into the

skin, that's another marketing gimmick and a source of misinformation in

this industry. Good it is that the skin is the body's biggest

protective organ .. if it were not so .. we'd spend a lotta time in the

emergency room. True it is that SOME chemical components of many oils

will absorb (to varying depths) .. but in almost ALL cases they are the

same chemical components that cause SENSITIZATION. All chemicals will

NOT absorb .. the reasons are many but primarily its due to molecular

size of the chemical component.

IF it is true that we must use Pure, Whole Essential Oils .. then we are

fooling ourselves if we think we are gaining benefit from dermal

application when only SOME of the chemicals will absorb. What is really

happening with dermal application is inhalation .. the volatile

molecules (the same ones that will cause the oil to evaporate) will be

taken in by the olfactory system.

> I spent thousands investigating oils until I found the direct importer

> that I use now.

I think that direct importer is giving you a lot of marketing hype. I

am assuming that what you are reporting is coming from that source.

> I use my EO's in a medical practice, both for Aromatherapy and

> Complimentary Alternative Medicine so, I wanted to find the best for

> me and my patients and clients.

The above makes me think you are a licensed health care provider.

Having patients convinces me of that.

> If you don't like the oils, you can send them back within 7 days

> and I'll you'll pay for is the shipping. That's how much I believe

> in my EO's quality.

Not a comment on the quality you sell .. but when you take an oil back

there is NO WAY to ensure the integrity of that oil!

> They don't have to be high dollar choices to start with. I would recommend

> 1 oz. each of: Lavender $25, Eucalyptus $12, Lemongrass $17, Peppermint $20

> and Rosemary $12.50 to start.

Folks might want to consider shopping around for EO .. look for tested

EO and pricing. There are market standards for pricing. Ask for

samples if buying from a new supplier.

> *** always research your EO's to insure they are either cold pressed or

> steam distilled.

Cold pressed oils are NOT Essential Oils. And steam distillation is not

the only type of distillation. We also have hydro distillation and

hydro diffusion .. all three methods produce an Essential (or Volatile) Oil.

> These types of oils remain natural.

I'm not sure what that means.

> Avoid anything that is solvent distilled if possible.

Then you will avoid Jasmine and Vanilla and many other oils because many

aromatics will not allow themselves to be distilled.

Nothing personal here Katherine .. but your post has been seen by over

1,000 folks .. so I am really obliged to give the other side of the

story. :-)

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
