Ravensara~Raventsara~Ravintsara

Hi all:

Funny how when you're on a quest, the subject comes up.

 

Had a small amount of Ravintsara aka Raventsara~Cinnamonum Camphora sent to me

from India last year, thinking that I was buying Ravensara Aromatica. It is

what I would describe as the most wonderful menthol/camphor smell of all the

camphor smells. Then, I tried to buy more... Bought 2 oz of Ravensara that

has a most anise smell to it. Talked with the supplier of that bottle, she sent

me a sample, it has a slight anise smell to it too. Hmmmm So, I was thinking

that they had Ravensara Anisata instead of Ravensara Aromatica. Not a whole lot

out there about the Anisata, except that it's supposed to have most of the same

properties. What I was actually comparing was the Cinnamonum Camphora to

Ravensara anisata or Aromatica. hmmmm

 

Bought another 20 ml a week or so and it has a slight anise smell to it too.

So, there really is a difference between the Ravintsara and the Ravensara. Both

of the Ravensara's have the anise smell to them. The Ravintsara has the

menthol/camphor smell that is not overpowering, but absolutely lovely. Course,

I'm one that doesn't mind a camphor smell. Especially, with Winter on it's way.

 

Now, the quest continues to find a good supplier of the Ravintsara and study it

a bit, plus find out the exact differences in the

Anisata vs Aromatica. Evidently all are good for inhalation for respiratory

problems.
