Spoke with Chris

I called Chris tonight with a pep talk about getting through Hurricanes. We

covered evacuation, hiding in the bathroom with no windows with mattresses

over the head in case the roof blows off, Margaritas, floods, holdouts,

shotguns, computers, kids, and the usual stuff. In other words, she's doing

fine. Hopefully, the storm is going ashore farther to the east than

originally expected, and hopefully, she'll have little damage. I told her

that even though we went through four horrible near-misses last year, and

two so far this year (Katrina and Rita), the noise and uncertainty as it

skirts by is unbelievable. You never really recover from the scare, you

just hope the next time you are a little more hardened towards the howling

wind, crashing, thunder, and lightening. And you hope the toilet doesn't

back up into the house!

Seriously, we spoke at length about the terrible toll these storms are

taking on people, emotionally and physically. No matter what the reason

physically -- the new cycle of the earth, global warming -- or politically

-- who's in charge, , poor planning, and how did they fail or succeed --

the real focus has to be on the people. Prayers and support are needed in

this time of terrible stress and upheaval.

Chris realizes she is lucky to have her family, friends and neighbors

around her. Pray for all those who are alone, scared, and need your ongoing

support in the months and years to come.

She has a friend at the house with a Blackberry, so she may be able to

check emails and report in. She wanted me to drop you this line about an

update, since she's still in the preparation stage of finishing up the last

minute stuff at her house.

Anya,

>I called Chris tonight with a pep talk >about getting through Hurricanes.

Thank You for posting this message.

I have been thinking of calling Chris all day but decided against it as I

knew that she would be busy. I'm sure that you were a great source of

comfort and information for her.

I have 2 nephews who live there also with their families, this is totally

new to them as they grew up in the desert.

Mine too. I have many friends in Texas on several lists. So far everyone is

safe, although blown and wet.

Thank you Anya! I checked in specifically to find out how Chris is doing. It

is just like her to count her blessings and continue thinking of others instead.
