Guest guest
Shay and Company in Portland, Oregon sells lye in 1 pound to 50 lbs in a 5 gallon bucket; although I don't think they will ship it. There are several suppliers on this list who sell lye as have been mentioned before (todieforsoap.com comes to mind) and I'm pretty sure you can go to www.handmadebeauty.com and look up even more suppliers who sell soap making ingredients, including lye, in the supplier members directory there. Also, I ordered from www.chemistrystore.com last spring. they require you to fill out a HazMat form but you can get lye shipped from them and their prices are reasonable for both lye and shipping. they allow you to purchase as many 2 lb containers as you like w/o additional hazmat fees. although you can get a 50lb bag from them as well; i'm not sure what the cost-analysis is with buying in bulk vs. paying hazmat fees as I haven't needed more than 2 pounds at a time yet! they sell both sodium hydroxide for making solid soap bars and potassium hydroxide for liquid soap making. Maybe we should start a file list?
