So .. if those folks were blowing smoke at each other

... it means we've

continued that smoke blowing for well over 5,500 years

and I ain't ready

to buy that folks were all that stupid for all that

long. Good chance

it is they didn't know why their potions needed

protection .. but they

knew they did need protection.

 

 

Hi Butch,

This might seem a bit overboard, but EOils not

frequently used by me are kept covered in a dark,

preferably black cloth to protect them. The darker the

bottle the better. There is a reason wine, baslamic

vinegars, etc are sold in dark bottles.

 

Smaller more often used quantities are stored in a

large leather, covered box. My feelings,

intuitively, is that this is an appropriate method of

EO preservation.

 

Fluoresent light exposure...imho.....a big NO NO.

I was thinking of this a week or so ago when the popular TV show

" House " , about an outside-the-box-thinking doctor had a urine sample

of a patient with a mysterious disease. They were working under a

deadline, they weren't seeing the results he predicted, so he took a

flashlight and shone it through the testtube of urine. He explained

" what oxidizes? Light! " It took a minute or so, but the reaction with

the chemical in the urine worked, the color changed, and he made his

diagnosis.

 

These shows have medical consultants on staff to ensure the veracity

of the dialogue, so perhaps in some labs they use lights to speed up a

reaction/degredation that they can observe for diagnosis.

I can not say there is anything wrong with his oils .. I have bought

some from him in large bulk and had them tested .. and to date found no

problems. I don't like all he sells .. but there are a few I do like.

This is the case with any supplier. To say that his (or anybody's) oils

are not good is to say that they are Commercial Grade or adulterated ..

to date I've not found that to be the case. I purchase from a dozen

sources in and outside the USA and it took a lotta years to hone it down

to a level of confidence.

That I will comment on .. that " scientific " manner is not supported by

other scientists. ;-)

 

Saying that clear glass is as safe as colored glass is but an opinion or

a position or a claim for one who sells in clear bottles. This subject

came up on the Idma in August 1999 .. I kept most of the replies but I

am not going to repeat them here. NOBODY agreed with this position ..

to include some active research scientists (also PhD's if that means

anything to anyone reading this .. it doesn't to me) and to others who

were highly qualified outside the area of aroma chemistry.

 

At that time, there was much scientific hoo-doo and counter hoo-doo ..

and it was one of the most heated of the many heated exchanges we had

on Idma. The heavy weights got involved and it was almost like a Star

Wars battle. Only difference was there was a lot more name calling than

we find in the Star Wars movie. The claim was that use of colored glass

was fear mongering by the manufacturers.

 

If its fear mongering and propaganda that caused manufacturers of many

products containing chemicals .. for the last 250 + years .. to use only

colored glass .. then we have a world full of mega-buck and scientific

organizations who are susceptible to the power of glass makers .. and if

anyone believes that, I have a bridge in Istanbul up for sale now.

 

In fact, there are many studies showing the negative effects of light

and temperature on essential oils .. and I'm not buying that ANYTHING is

not susceptible to the effects of light .. anything including rocks.

 

I know that those in the know don't buy the argument presented but

propaganda influences many people. We see it with those who choose to

follow Young Living .. and those who are willing to believe that colored

glass is safe for essential oils. Could just be that someone got a real

good buy on clear glass .. huh? ;-)

 

According to my readings, its been like 250 years or so since patented

or commercial medications came on the scene .. but glass has been

produced since around 3,500 BC to protect what they used then as healing

remedies .. and the preferred colors were dark VIOLET/PURPLE and GOLD ..

leastwise that's the way its stated in some history texts.

I believe that the protective ability against photochemical processes of

glass ranges as do the colors of the Spectrum .. starting and ending in

that order. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

 

My position is that UV rays are potent and stopped by very few things,

including clothing and clouds. The worst sunburns can occur on cloudy

days when UV rays reflect off of the clouds and sunbathers get a double

dose. Another issue is electro-magnetic radiation or pulse (commonly

called in military terms, EMP) .. electromagnetic radiation in many

areas of the spectrum will cause molecules to ionize and that results in

fragmentation .. a breakdown it is so a good thing it ain't. This will

occur faster if the oil is colored to begin with .. like the Blue Oils.

The color itself is an indication that there are molecular electronic

transitions taking place in the visible range of our eyes.

 

I use Miron Violet Glass cause its PROVEN via some fairly sophisticated

research that Violet is the most protective color in the spectrum. See

Miron Violet is expensive .. however, I order by the Pallet Load .. it

was a MAJOR START UP INVESTMENT in 1999 but I got'em for a good bit less

by buying in large bulk .. and I still do.

They look almost black. On 11 August 1999 we had the Full Sun Eclipse

right over Ankara .. enterprising folks were selling smoked glass and

whatever on every street corner the day before. My employees and I

stood on my office balcony and watched it for the entire period .. using

100 ml Miron Violet Glass .. it was a wonderful sight fer'shur. Here it

Twas a big deal here .. Parliamentarians took a break and filed into

the Grand National Assembly gardens (we didn't notice they weren't

working). Shops closed and many people said their marriage vows again or

for the first time during the eclipse, to include a number of foreign

eclipse chasers ... traffic stopped (unbelievable for Turkey).

 

During that period, millions of dollars were committed to scientific

study of the habits of certain critters, birds, turtles, etc., and their

reaction to the short period of daytime darkness - not sure what they

were looking for, but I reckon they found it. I know it definitely had

an impact on two legged critters. It created a regular festival like

atmosphere here in Turkey. That night the bars were full of Eclipse

Interesting it is .. and perhaps coincidental .. but six days later, at

0305 in the morning on 17 August 1999 .. we had the largest earthquake

we've had in memory here in Turkey .. I spent the next seven days in

Golcuk (the epicenter) digging out bodies .. few were alive. Turkey had

more than 22,000 deaths in that quake.

 

Back to glass y'all .. since Miron Violet costs a heckuva lot more than

the clear glass or other colored glass bottles I'd have to be some kinda

ignert idjit to use them if I didn't believe they were worth it. An ol'

kuntry boy I is but an ignert idjit I reckon I ain't. ;-)

Asking such questions is not trouble making. Everything is not always

as it appears to be in the world of marketing .. and the fact that one

has certain credentials does not make them infallible .. if that were

the case there would be no lawyers. When there are two in a court room

at least one of them is wrong. ;-)
