Adding sugar to your water prior to adding the lye, is another way to increase the 'suds' in your soaps. Just make sure all the sugar is disolved PRIOR to adding the lye--or you end up with a solid lump at the bottom of your container. Adding salt to your water (again, prior to the lye) will increase the hardness of your soap. Most people use about a teaspoon per pound of oils--or less.
