Guest guest
I can't stress highly enough, to let your friend know she needs to get another opinion. I was going thru very similar conditions, and the last 2 years of my suffering--were plain and simply--hell. I was totally bed ridden for the length of my bleeding--any time I sat up....yep--rather uncomfortable, to say the least. The dr I had been seeing refused to give me a referal to an obgyn--and given my history---it was warrented. His refusal was based on the fact I was recieving welfare at the time. By the time my disability started, and I was able to be seen by obgyn specialists at the VA--I had a very rare form of cancer called: Leiomyoscarcoma--which in most cases, is fatal. When undergoing a required ultrasound prior to my surgery, the teck called the radiologist over to look at what he was finding. Turned out I had fibroids as large as a man's fist--which this guy told me, not to worry--just run of the mill fibroids. Gee, but I wasn't amused when I found out those were the ones that had turned cancerous. My surgery was posponed a month, as I was so severely enemic by that time, they said they'd never get me off the operating table. It took every bit of that 4 weeks to bring my iron level up to the minimum required for surgery. I ate as much red meat, spinich & broccoli as I could stand--and took enough iron suppliments to knock down a horse. This is one thing that men just don't understand. I had a very GRAPHIC explanation of my monthly 'experience' ready to relate to a male dr, if that's whom I got as my dr at the va. Believe me, it was enough to turn most men's guts hearing the tale. Thank god I got a woman dr instead--who looked at my file and said--you need a hystorectomy---now! Please--urge your friend to get another opinion--if she can find a woman dr who'll see her--have her do it! goody
