Guest guest
OK, I gave the warning, so if chatting about a woman having period problems makes you queasy, best pass on this one This is from a friend of mine, just not sure what to tell her to help her out.....I'm not sure the *jolt* of hormones was the best way to go??? >>>>well I dont know lol I couldnt stop bleeding and there was heavy clotting and this has been going on for way too long . So I beat my head against the wall because I have no insurance but I was really feeling like crap and getting very run down and I found a Dr. that would work payments . He did a pelvic and said he felt my body just needed a good jolt . So he put me on massive doses of bc - I take 3 pills a day for 7 days and then 2 a day for 7 days and then 1 a day for seven days and then he said I would have a very wicked period . LIKE IT COULD GET ANY WORSE THEN IT HAS BEEN .....he said the clotting is just age .... it happens to alot of women as they get older . That wicked period should come just in time for my b day lol>>> I'm sure her iron is very low, any other ideas? Guest guest
Sounds like she needs an ultra sound and a D & C? How old is she? Is she in menopause? Could she be pregnant? Any STD's? Guest guest
Oh one more thing Chris, She should find another doctor. I hate the 'Take one of these Valium three times a day and call me in a week doc.' Julia Graber Girl By Julia Julia Graber Cregger
Guest guest
The dr. didn't find fibroids or anything like that? I think she should get a second opinion and a better exam, at the very least! KarenC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Karen M. Chan | kmchan | Whatever Happens... Guest guest
Dear Chris, I agree with Karen. To say the least, your friend needs to have a CA-125 blood test. Although it may present a false positive, if it does, then further types of testing, such as in office endometrial biopsies, etc. can be done to further rule out any cancer. As a 2 time cancer survivor (ovarian and 8 years later cervical) I HIGHLY recommend this test to ALL women. It's not that expensive - I think about $45 - $55 and detects Cancer cells that may be carcinoma or other forms of female abdominal cancers. It's worth the money. Had the Army invested in giving me this test when I first reported, over multiple office visits and nearly 1 year, that I was having clotting, intermittent bleeding, cramps, etc., then perhaps I wouldn't have had to endure chemotherapy and eventually a full hysterectomy. Without further investigation and definite diagnosis (tell her to get an ICD-9 Code of her diagnosis and then research it), prescribing a boat load of hormones is not the treatment I would accept. Remind your friend that SHE is in charge of her medical care. Also, I would recommend use of a PMS blend of essential oils rubbed on the abdomen 2-3 times per day and an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Herbal Tea 4 cups a day. I hope your friend is going to be okay. Guest guest
The biggest problem is that doctors do not know what causes this, 99.999% of the time. I was told the clots were from blood flowing so fast that it could not get out of the cervis fast enough, so it clotted. I asked how do the clots get out? No answer. Reducing my intake of red meat slowed them down to a reasonable flow. Guest guest
Ok....FOREWARNING!!! The answers given herein are kinda graphic, and not for the faint.....SOOO, if you get quesy just thinking about blood, please delete this post!!! I too, had a similar problem. Mine started from a miscarriage, and went on from there. I was given a D & C as I was passing lots of blood and some really large, strange looking clots. After the D & C, I was told they found remnants of a pregnancy that dated approximately 3 months. Anyway, after this, my next period was unusually heavy, and they gradually got worse. They tried BC pills, Depo-provera shots, everything. Seriously. I used EVERY form of hormones that were on the market at the time. I went through many treatments over the following two years, to no avail. I was bleeding 60 to 90 days at a time, and was having to take iron pills, to keep me from being anemic. I cannot remember the name of it...but the doctor told me he thought I had something similar to endometriosis, only, instead of the endometrium growing outside of the uterus, it will mesh itself back through the uterine wall. I ended up having an emergency hysterectomy, as I was literally bleeding to death. After all was said and done, they sent the uterus to pathology, and it came back as a perfectly normal uterus. <UGH!> My doctor told me that obviously, my hormones had just been so out of whack, that he was unable to even them out to normal, to stop the bleeding. Long story short.... She really needs a second opinion, or maybe a third. Would I have the hysterectomy done again, knowing then what I know now....I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Living that way for two years was miserable. I had no quality of life. At least I didn't have any type of cancer or anything, but it was something I was concerned about at the time, as this type of cancer runs in my family. It could be something as simple as her hormones being out of kilter.....and the BC pills will help. If they don't, I'd be looking for more answers. I wish I knew of something herbal that would help. Other than sniffing some Vitex, I don't have a clue. Just my story....and I hope her situation works out, easily. Guest guest
Chris, My daughter had that very same problem. She would go for up to 14 days and then start all over again in another 14 days. I took her to the doctor and he did the exact same thing for her. It worked until after she had her second baby. She had very normal periods . Now she will have to do it again when she gets over this last drama from having her last baby 4 weeks ago. Sally Opening this Wednesday !!!! Apples , Woods and Berries ! Guest guest
Please consider acupuncture too! It saved me from severe peri-menopausal bleeding. If it doesn't help, she will get her system a bit more in harmony and that won't hurt. Ien in the Kootenays **************************** " To treat life as less than a miracle is to give up on it. Guest guest
Your friend might also consider seeing an acupuncturist/chinese herbalist... some possible factors include what's called " Liver Stagnancy " , weak Spleen-Pancreas energy, or " Stagnant Blood " . A professional could determine her specific pattern of imbalances and prescribe the proper herbs. If she gets back to you with a specific Chinese diagnosis, we could talk about foods to emphasize and avoid. -Josh
