We have cougars too ! A mother & young one were seen and photographed less than a mile from where I'm sitting - almost in my back yard. I've heard stories since I was about 5 about the 'large cats' that were occasionally seen but most people said there weren't any large cats in Michigan, and the farmers that claimed to see them (in or near the swampy edge of the river) 'must have been in the sun too long'. Well, too many people have seen them now and they have made casts of the foot prints, gathered samples of their dropping adn the cats have been photographed by a few people. But that probably isn't enough proof for some people. Paula .......... in Michigan .. .. >>> PAULA I am 80 miles northeast on you on I-94. I know cats and have heard cougars around here for over ten years. Lots of coyotes, too. And, last month I saw a golden eagle near the pond. Could hardly believe my eyes. mjh " The Basil Book " http://foxhillfarm.us/FireBasil/
Guest guest
there are a few pair of bald eagles here and every now and then we'll see one of them over head. Helps that we are about 2.5 miles south of the river and about 5 miles west of Lake Erie. There have been photos in our local paper of one of them perched somewhere in town. I know of 4 different nest sites. Coyotes are very common here. Many times at night we can hear them all around us. One, very far off will start to howl. When that one quits, the next one in line will start and they can be at for an hour before each one has it's say and the howls form a circle around us. Can't begin the to count the number of times I've one or 2. We often find their droppings in the yard. Since we're the last house on a dead end dirt road with acres and acres of fields around us we see lots of coyotes and deer and other critters. DH is a meat cutter and does deer processing during hunting season. The neighbor will dig a pit in the field with his back hoe so there is a place to dump the bones and other scraps and judging by the tracks around the pit, the coyotes are very happy to help finish off some of the scraps.
