Guest guest
Josh (or at least I think it was Josh), You were asking a little while back about extracting allantion from comfrey. I also harvested comfrey this weekend. (Along with elderberries, jewelweed, dogbane and milkweed, sulphur shelf mushrooms, goldenrod, autumn olives and corn silk.) Unintentionally, I made a sort of fruit leather type substance with comfrey juice I tried extracting using my juicer. I was making comfrey oil with the leaves but the stems were so juicy I couldn't stand to not do something new that I hadn't tried before. Anyhow, I got the most gooey, gelatinous glop of stuff you can imagine. I put it in the fridge over night (uncovered) and by the morning the water had evaporated leaving behind a fruit leather consistency type substance to be peeled off the bottom of the bowl. I have taken it out and now it is in the food dehydrator. It's not straight up allantion and I am not sure what I will do next with it but it will be fun to experiment.
