Lavender; Peppermint; Spearmint; Basil; Cardamom; Cinnamon; Clove. Add distilled water and mix for desired consistency. Great for sensitive skin and unlike Green Clay or Bentonite, does not expand with increasing water content. It is naturally absorbing and used as a scent fixative. Green is extremely absorbant. BTW. Do you think small malibu tubes would be a successful method of dispersal with your recipe? I saw something on one of the lists called tooth soap. I googled it and was surprised at what I found. I wondered the same thing about adding a preservative and ended up adding some GSE to mine (yeah, I know the big debate about GSE). I also considered adding tea trea oil. Anyhooo . . . I love the way this makes my teeth and mouth feel. Ya know how you get this feeling that something is really good for you? That is how I felt about this. Now I need to find a good buy on the clays as I used nearly all of my stash . . . I want to make it for my grown children. Now . . . how can this be packaged so one is not " dipping " into the bowl? This recipe look as if you can make the formula and just add water to your brush when ready to use - like a toothpowder. Then you don't have to worry about messing with a preservative I know one of the toothpowder I have here has very similar ingredients - except it also has baking soda in it ... Carol Ann already mentioned the kaolin part, but here's more info about how they mine and process it from natural deposits in Edgar, Florida: <http://ceramic-materials.com/cermat/material/291.html> I use EPK in all of the pottery glazes I make. The above website is a ceramic materials database. So far, I haven't branched out into using any of my pottery materials in the soap and toiletries I make. I buy the clays used in them from suppliers of ingredients for soapmakers. I'm not sure, though, if there would be any difference. In trying to keep it simple I choose not to use a preservative, make small batches and use glass jars. The best suggestion I can make is to use a small wood palate, similar to the ones uses when eating Hagen-Daz ice cream. The EO's due to their anti-bacterial, anti-viral properties, tend to lend longevity to the paste. The suggestion Chris had about keeping it a powder is certainly something to contemplate. I haven't noticed the need to add more water to the clay after all the ingredients have been incorporated but it could happen since the Bentonite absorbs and expands. It would depend on the initial consistencey. A tube would mean less exposure to air, thus less drying out over a period of time.
