Guest guest
Hi All, I'm new to the group, and I'm very thankful that this resource exists. It helps tie information that I already had, but didn't have all the pieces of together. Someone mentioned Optiphen as an alternative to parabens. What do you all know about Suttocide A? Appreciate it. Tam
Guest guest
I personally don't like the smell. I have heard others state that it can get really smelly when combined with some ingredients. Guest guest
I think the fact that parabens have been found in human breast tumours (Journal of Applied Toxicology v.24, i.1, 1jan04) is a serious concern, one that should not be discounted. aromamedical2003 <aromamedical-2 wrote: There is no sound evidence that parabens are harmful. All the reports on the net are based on a single piece of lousy research done in a Reading University here in the UK. That report was taken up by the media and spread around the world like wildfire. The fact the report has since been exposed as full of faults has not been so widely reported. One always has to strike a balance with such issues and although parabens are chemicals, I would consider having a product free of harmful organisms is far more important than having products with suspect preserative systems. Incidentally, we do not know the long term effects of some of the natural preservatives either. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, It will destroy the base completely by over heating it, more so if it has any whole oils in it. And it will not evaporate the preservative. It might be destroyed at the high heat, but so will all that base product. Parabens have been used for many, many years, probably the oldest of broad spectrum preservatives. I have a few friends that are allergic to one of the parabens, Methylparaben, but if it is not the only one used and is mixed with the other preservatives, they do not have a problem. Strange thing, but they were willing to do some testing for my several years back and this is what we found. Also the junk that has been fed into the " natural " industry of it being found in tumors, etc. is just that, junk. Someone some where wanted to sell their product and in order to do that they had to trash another product with bogus testing and in many cases, no testing at all, just a bunch of words. If my breast cancer tumor has been put to extensive testing, I am sure that they would have found not only tiny amounts of preservative, but many other chemicals, EO's, minerals and on and on and on in that tumor. What goes on the skin does go into the body and might or might not attach itself to cancer cells. If one is worried about using a broad spectrum preservative, don't make a stay on the skin product with water in it. I make a few body butters for several people that do not wish to have preservatives in their products. And what is neat about the way they use them is they use a little water on the skin where they are going to apply the butter and it spreads more and sinks in faster. Tried it myself, since my skin is such a mess because of the chemo treatments and it works so nicely that I recommend it to anyone that uses the butters I make. But with any product with water, there needs to be a broad spectrum preservative used in order to keep down those nasty things that can cause problems, like eye infections when used on the eye area or if the unpreserved lotion or cream was used on the skin where there was a cut, it could cause an infection. Well I went over a bit there, but hope that it helps. :-) God Bless your life's walk Rita...Homeschooling Mom in Georgia May the ~A~ngels up ~A~bove Guide you with Love ~A~ http://www.tlcsoaps.com/supplies.htm
