Guest guest
I'm still having issues with my computer .. I don't know what is causing my issues .. I have plenty of RAM (512 MB), I cleaned all the dust out of it, the fans are working, I've run several virus scans, I've done a memory system diagnostic, a hardware diagnostic, basically I've gone through the normal check list of possible problems (except for changing the power cord, that is next) ... I might have to take this further ... which means I might not be around on the computer much for the next few days until I can fix it, or someone computer geekier than me can fix it .. This reminds me that I better go get a backup external drive! :-o Anyway, if I do shut her off for any length of time I'll put an auto reply message on my e-mail so everyone knows I'm not being a poop and just ignoring them. Have a great weekend y'all! *Smile* Chris (list mom - who'd love to join in the fun conversations going on now, but is hampered by a machine that will inevitably be shutting itself down in a matter of minutes ;-p) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
My son is a computer geek and the only thing that found the 'worm' that was on his computer and causing strange stuff was PC Rescue. You might check into this. Zo > I'm still having issues with my computer .. I don't know what is causing > my issues .. There may be other problems, but the computer is four years old, and that's usually the lifespan. Ironically, it's the one year anniversary of my computer biting the dust (due to bad advice from the Belkin rep when their backup/surge protector was having problems). Chris doesn't have a backup HD. I hope I convinced her to first, call GeekSquad or one of those companies who send techs to your house, because second, she should not turn the old computer on again until they come to, third, transfer the data to her new computer she should buy today (I like to tell others how to spend their money.) That way, if the HD fails during the transfer, the GeekSquad insurance will cover the $$$$ data recovery. Been there, done that. So, if she gets a new computer today, she can load new software over the weekend, and get back online. Just won't have all her business files, personal photos, old emails, etc., back until the transfer is done. She did all kinds of stuff to check for worms, viruses, etc., both internally and online (scans from different websites), cleaned out the dust, hardware analysis, etc., so a new computer may be the only way to go. http://naturalperfumery.com
Guest guest
Hi Chris Don't know if you are reading this...but if you are then.... A good place for computer related problem help is http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ Scroll down till you reach " jump to forum " box and jump into " Cyber Safety " . From there you can either search for similar problems others have had - and the solutions, or ask your own question related specifically to " your " problem. Or check into the Windows forum for your OS. These guy's REALLY know their stuff and will walk you hand in hand through any problem (er, well, computer related that is...!) and point you to diagnostic programs and infection killer tools if need be. Computer keeping closing down sounds very much like the Sasser worm - see Semantic at http://tinyurl.com/23592) MS have the Malicious Software Removal Tool which maybe worth running http://tinyurl.com/3vvsc Also run an Ad-Aware scan (download the free program and **update it** before running) freebie can be found here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Delete ***ONLY*** the critical objects it finds - nothing from the negligible objects list - for now. Finally try Spy-Bot - again free at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html HTH some and good luck!! Guest guest
Hi, Chris! Mercury is in Retrograde until Aug 15, then goes Direct on the 16th. Mercury rules communication and machines - you are not the only one who has been affected by the planet. Try working on it after the 17th and things will be much better. Have a great day! Without boring you with the details, I think the #1 concern right now is to avoid a HD crash since she hasn't backed up her data. Going to those sites, just turning the computer on, could cause it. Better safe than sorry. I'll call her tomorrow and fill her in on your info, though. I think she was going to go online for a sec to maybe give her cel phone # on autoresponder to emails, 'cause you know she likes to keep her customers up to date on what's happening. http://naturalperfumery.com

Oh, we had a big discussion about this -- Chris is totally tuned into Merc retro, and i confirmed with my ephemeris that it goes Direct on Tuesday, the 16th. I said since it probably will take a few days for her to get an appointment with a tech, make it for late Tuesday, or the next day. Better safe than sorry. When my computer was killed by an idiot Belkin tech over the phone last AUGUST 12th (eerie coincidence) Merc had gone retro two days before. Feh. http://naturalperfumery.com
