Guest guest
I saw mention of bayberry wax in an earlier post. The wax that " renders " off these berries has become an enchantment for me ever since I swiped a baggie full of them on a beach trip to Delaware a few years back. This spring, I found several bushes for sale at an herb fest and bought all she had. I planted them in the woods nearby and am rubbing my hands together with glee - waiting for my very own " crop " ... that I don't have to swipe. They are so deep in undergrowth now that I have to wait for fall to see what is out there, and how they've done. Those first berries, I put into a saucepan, covered with water, and simmered until the wax rose to the surface. The scent that filled my house was incredible! Using them for a simmer is reason enough to grow them. The ounce or so of wax went into a small batch of soap - more symbolic than anything else. So now I'm wondering... does anyone here use bayberry wax for anything? In my minds eye, I'm picturing buckets of berries, although I know we're probably talking a pint or so for the next couple of years :-)... if the bushes are properly sexed.
