Guest guest
Hey Josh, Just to give you some ideas to play with here is a link to some recipes that use ALL kinds of systems (from e-way to beeswax/boric acid to liquid lecithin) http://thelibrary.luxurylane.com/recipefiles/lotion.htm I found that old " light massage lotion base " recipe I had told you about - the one with just oil water and liquid lecithin ... one to two parts oil of choice, one part liquid lecithin and two parts distilled water. Warm the oil and lecithin together, warm the water separately, put the warm oil in a mixer (or use a stick blender) and drizzle the warm water into the oil phase slowly while mixing till emulsified. It was a light thin lotion, meant to be used unscented or have a tiny bit of EO's added to it for doing massages where an oily feel wasn't desired. As for cleaning stick blenders, just stick it in a container of hot soapy water and turn it on <grinz>*lol* *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com On Behalf Of Joshua Alexander Heya :-) The funny part is that I eventually want to be able to do this stuff *without* beeswax <laugh> And I don't know if, say, bayberry wax will have the same emulsifying properties. There are lots of natural thickeners used in food, like agar, pectin, arabic gum, etc. I wonder how those would work. I was reading that bentonite clay may also be helpful. Actually, the really frustrating part is cleaning up afterward <laugh> I'm afraid to get a stick blender... how the devil do you clean it? Tonight's recipe would NOT rinse off, it had to be wiped with a very soapy sponge. Twas very tenacious. I'll look forward to reading those recipes when you find them :-) Best, Josh
Guest guest
Wow, Chris... equal parts oil and lecithin. You know, that was my suspicion based on a couple attempts at various things with lecithin... that it only emulsifies a small proportion... which seems to contradict what I've read about it, e.g. keeping it to 3% or less, but maybe those folks were using other emulsifiers as well. >one to two parts oil of choice, >one part liquid lecithin >and >two parts distilled water. >
