Guest guest
Dear list, I have a friend of a friend who needs advice on growing lavender. Please let her know (and me too) how to find out whether she can grow lavender successfully. Dear4 Anna, I have a big work party and ask people to come and harvest and to bring food. It has been seven parties so far. Lots of wands, and baskets made with lavender and taught by my friend Alice Kotzen who comes up with her husband and sometimes her son from Palm Dessert. I distill the lavender that I don't give away as bunches and blossoms to cook with. the oil I use from the distillation for bubble bath and lotions. I'll send you some. Send me your address. I do not know about the water. I don't think it is too much of a problem because I doubt they irrigate in France where they grow acres and acres of it. You might ask a few questions on my list: _ _ ( ) Jan In a message dated 8/8/2005 9:48:54 AM Pacific Standard Time, aredsand writes: Hi Jan, Thanks for your response w/ photos. I had to pass up a lavender harvest at your home one year when I was teaching at UC Berkeley for the summer because I had so many papers to edit. My loss. My yard really is huge. The part around my patio I am hoping to do container and raised bed vege gardening in. But the back area I've considered devoting to an orchard or vineyard because it's so large. However, in our arid climate both would be labor intensive and require quite a bit of water (grapes probably less than fruit trees. Then I thought of lavender. I'd probably like to put the whole thing to it, but then perhaps there would be too much to harvest. What do you do w/ your harvest?
