Hi XXXXX

You've got a real treat in store - oregano hydrosol is a commonly used

" medication " here in Turkey. You can even buy it in the supermarkets.

People don't drink it straight as there is still a good bit of EO in it

and the carvacrol in oregano oil will slightly sting the lips. There's

no way to separate all the EO from the water beneath the EO - that's the

whole idea behind hydrosols being therapeutic. Turks dilute this at

approximately 1/3 oregano hydrosol and 2/3 another liquid, normally,

juice, water or even milk. Most people drink the dilution morning and

night - around 6 ounces each time.

If you use it as a mouthwash - and you should do this, it should also be

diluted 1 part hydrosol to 2 parts water.

If used as an external antiseptic, it should then be rinsed off with

clear water.

The Turks believe it decreases blood sugar and gastrointestinal gas.

They also use it for treatment of internal parasites. They (and I)

believe it prevents and even cures colds, flu and other respiratory type

infections, and they use it for asthmatics as it has expectorant

properties.

I'm surprised you were able to find Origanum vulgare (hirtum) in the NE

USA. Origanum vulgare is perhaps the most mis-identified of any of the

botanicals. There are more different oreganos than I could list on a

couple of pages - but almost ALL of them are beneficial as long as they

contain carvacrol. There is another origanum endemic to Turkey that is

higher in linalool than in carvacrol! It's only found in one small area

and it's becoming difficult to obtain as the goats like to graze on it.

Professor Doctor Husnu Can Basar, Director of the Turkish Medicinal and

Aromatic Plant Research Institute has written and presented a number of

scientific papers on this rare plant.

Good luck to you - and as the Turks say, " Afiyet olsun " - may it improve

your health.....

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
