Guest guest
I want to thank all of you for your replies. My daughter is doing a lot better. I have replied to each of you below. Sindy wrote: My advice would be to take her back to the hospital. She may have a cyst or something else they didn't check for. Cramps should not be that severe for that long, especially after so much medication. They can at lease give her something to relax and monitor her at the hospital. She also may have a blockage in her tubes, like a blot clot or something. Sindy (snip) My GM's old army dr took one look at me and said appendix~ 12 hours later I was in surgery. Sindy Hello Sindy, My daughter refused to have the vaginal exam when the doctor in the emergency room said he was going to do one. He also wanted a urine specimen to see if she was pregnant. When my daughter found out what he wanted the urine specimen for she said, “I’m not pregnant”. The doctor looked at her and asked, “Are you sexually active”. She replied, “No”. He said, “Okay, if you refuse, I can’t do anything about it.” He did check her abdomen out…pressing on it in various areas to find out if there was any pain there. It was negative. The doctor said he just ruled out appendicitis with that exam and she was suffering from “severe cramps”, he ordered her the 2 percoset to be given there and sent us home. He did tell her that if she came back he would do the vaginal exam. She refused to go back to the hospital even tho she was hurting for hours at home. The pain did finally go away and she was able to sleep. Ellen wrote: So sorry about your daughter's sever pain. Once you deal with this acute issue, please look into the herb Vitex agnus-castus. Many women use this herb to regulate their menses and ease severe systems of PMS. But that's after this situation is deal with. Hello Ellen, I have vitex essential oil here that I use for myself. I have tried to get my daughter to sniff it but she doesn’t want to. Maybe now she’ll be more open to it. Jo Ann wrote: (snip) She might have endometriosis. The main symptom of endometriosis is painful cramps. Early treatment is vital if you want to have children later on. Hello Jo Ann, I will be taking her to a Gyn as soon as she will agree to it. I’ll make sure it’s a female also. I explained the exam to her and right now she absolutely refuses to go thru it. I have to respect her choice even tho I disagree with her. In our state (Washington) the doctors won’t do anything to her if she doesn’t want it done. If she has these kind of cramps next month, she’ll probably change her mind and have the exam done. Barb wrote: My daughters have severe menstrual cramps; I have had excellent success for them with Wild Yam Cream (10%), which you can find at a health food store. In that cream, I put about 15 drops of clary sage, and mixed well. The girls told me that it worked for them within 15 minutes. (snip) about a teaspoon (more or less) of 10% yam cream with clary sage applied to the lower abdomen and rubbed in like lotion works well. Probably need to reapply every 4 hours or so. Barb Hello Barb, I will get some of this cream and mix up a small batch to have ready for her and my other daughters. Thank you. Veronica wrote: Maybe you should look at her diet first. Is she eating too much salt or caffeine? Both can make menstrual cramps unbearable. (snip) Veronica Davidson Hello Veronica, I know she isn’t getting too much salt, we have an almost salt-free diet. My husband is the only one in the family who drinks much in the way of caffeine… the rest of us drink mostly water with maybe a can of pop once a month. I agree with you tho, about food being a possible cause. I’ve been watching what foods she’s been eating to see if something is triggering it. She hasn’t eaten very much, her stomach has been upset and she’s been sleeping most of the time. I’ve let her sleep as much as she wants to the past couple days. By tomorrow, she’ll be more herself (today she was feeling a lot better and only had to take the ibuprofen once). Jessica wrote: My friend suffers from severe menstrual cramps and she has had amazing success by taking a motherwort tincture. As far as essential oils go, I use chamomile, ginger, cypress, and juniper. It's a terrible thing to experience - I hope that you find something that works well for your daughter. Jessica Hello Jessica, I will be looking for some motherwort tincture at the health food store. It will be good to have some on hand to see if it helps my girls. I’m also making notes of all this information so I can use it for the next time there are cramps…severe or not so bad. Ien wrote: Try Reflexology. It works for labor pains! Hello Ien, I did try that as well as massaging her lower back. She said it helped for a little bit and then didn’t seem to work any longer. She did allow me to keep doing it off and on when she wasn’t up walking around. Josh wrote: (snip) Avoid: alcohol, tobacco, coffee, cold-temp foods, refined sugar, hydrogenated fats (shortening and most margarines), polyunsaturated cooking oils, over-consumption of fruit and/or raw food, commercial red meats and poultry (residues of steroids composed of female sex hormones can interfere with human menstruation) Emphasize: filtered water (to avoid fluoride & chlorine especially), asparagus, and sufficient nutrients via legumes, vegetables, whole grains. (snip) cramping and pain can be associated with excess arachidonic acid and PGE2, which are usually overabundant in those with a history of heavy meat-eating. If you are seriously interested in a natural or herbal solution, I'd definitely pick up the book for the dietary guidelines and see someone trained in the TCM herbs for the rest. Sometimes even small steps in the right direction can have tremendous impact. Best of luck, Josh Hello Josh, Of the above foods that she eats would be cold-temp foods, some refined sugar, some hydrogenated fats (only in the store bought bread that we get, of which she eats about 2 slices a day), she does eat 1 serving of meat or poultry a day. We have a well that gives us good, clean water (it’s been tested) so we know she isn’t getting fluoride or chlorine, and she drinks about a quart or more a day. She eats several servings of vegetables and the whole grain is in the bread we buy from the store. We do buy the more expensive bread to make sure we’re getting decent bread. I don’t think she’s eating too much red meat but I’ll watch the amount more closely. I will pick up the book and read it. There is a naturopathic doctor in town that we have gone to a few times. I can take my daughter to her and see what she has to say. I hadn’t thought about her before. Thank you for reminding me with your mention of TCM (even tho that isn’t what she is). Ravenstone wrote: (snip) what helped the most was stretching. Ravenstone Hello Ravenstone, Oddly enough, she found that stretching one leg out in front of her and bringing the heal of her other foot up next to her body with her knee touching the floor and then laying her forehead on the floor actually eased the cramps. She would switch legs and again lay her forehead on the floor. She did this for about 30 minutes and said the cramps didn’t go away but they eased up a lot. Then her leg muscles started complaining and she stopped stretching them. Elaine wrote: (snip) I started taking Dong Quai and Chaste Tree Berry. I take them every day to keep my hormones balanced. If I start to feel any cramping at all I take Cramp Bark in tincture form and all cramps are gone within 1/2 hour. By all means, you should have your dtr. checked with ultrasound to make sure that there are no cysts or abnormalities, but if the Dr.s start giving you the line that she is " normal " and that they want to put her on birth control or other synthetics, I would urge you to try the herbals first. Try to find a naturopath in your area that specializes in woman's issues. Hello Elaine, I don’t have the herbs but I do have vitex essential oil. I will try to get my daughter to sniff it each day. Hopefully that will help her. I will also look for the cramp bark tincture. She’ll have a choice of several tinctures to take if the cramps come again. I’ll also try to talk her into seeing the naturopathic doctor that I have taken two of my other children to (a lot of years ago) and hadn’t thought about taking this daughter to her. I don’t want her suffering like this again. Kathy wrote: Had one ER doc say I was crazy and wanted to be put in for miscarrage at 13. I was a virgin. Kathy Hello Kathy, My daughter is also a virgin. I don’t know if the doctor believed her or not but it doesn’t matter. He was thinking she might have been pregnant and this was a possible miscarriage. Barbara wrote: (snip) So all I am saying is that sometimes no matter what we do we can not know for sure why something is so severe. I wish sometimes that we had a window into the body to see if all things are working or that there are no abnormalities. Hope you do take some of the advise and see if it can be lessened by some of the suggestions. I understand exactly how it feels. Always walk in the Creator's footsteps. Barbara Hello Barbara, We don’t know why they were so severe, but she has survived it. It would be really great if we could see inside our bodies sometimes, to make sure everything is okay. I am definitely taking advise from all these wonderful people. I will be buying the tinctures and trying to get her to sniff the vitex. I’ll be trying to get her to see a doctor/naturopath but it is her decision. Hopefully, she won’t have any more cramps like the ones that are now passed. I want to again, thank you all for replying. I really do appreciate it. My daughter is somewhat impressed that anyone would reply *grins* She likes to pretend that she isn’t impressed by much. Thank you All.
