Guest guest
Anya, I love crockpots for infusing oils! I have 6 of them that I use to infuse oils for my salves. (Then I have another one that I use for winter soups!) LOL Sandi BlackKat Herbs http://www.blackkatherbs.com >
Guest guest
I can see a run on crockpots at the local stores! The " low " setting on mine is 165F. I consider that a bit high, so I watch it carefully and stop it as soon as the herbs seem " limp " . The high setting is much too high. So don't forget to check what the setting temps are -- and use the lowest. http://naturalperfumery.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume " The Age of the Foodie is passé. Guest guest
Hi ... here's how I do it: Fill mason jars with herbs and cover with oil. Close the jars, place them in the crock pot and add water. Keep the temperature low. Add water to the crock pot as needed to keep the level up (especially before going to bed at night). This works with both fresh and dry herbs. I have actually left them in for several days to get the most from the herbs. This approach seems to be a little gentler on the herbs. HTH... Guest guest
When using fresh herbs I leave the lid ajar so that moisture can escape and that prevents any mold forming I love the crockpot method, made some lovely fresh comfrey oil this way. anne I put my herbs in a crock pot and cover with my oils. Guest guest
One of my friends solved the problem of having the " low " setting of the crockpot too high. She went to a hardware store and bought a dimmer switch that the crockpot is plugged into. Guest guest
That was imaginative. I never would have thought about doing that! Guest guest
Crock pot infusion, I love it! Though I am unscientific enough to believe that sun infusion will add a special kind of energy to any product. Alas, here in the West Kootenay we are in the interior wet belt. You can't ever be sure of sun for days on end. You all have me chomping at the bit to go buy a big extra bottle of olive oil so I can play with infusing oils! Alas, once again I never did get around to harvesting the thriving arnica patch while it was in bloom. Next year, I promise. I do have St John's wort still going strong, an endless supply of comfrey, the most luscious plantain ever, plenty of chickweed, and calendula just starting to seriously bloom. It was planted late.
