Guest guest
Hi, I am a soapmaker in France. I got my recipes certified non-toxic (cost $500.) but could not use all the EOs that I wanted to use since they were not allowed. We also have to list any allergens on our labels, everything written in inci. Now the french cosmetic agency says I have to have a degree in chemistry in order to open my soapmaking business, or someone with a similar diploma to " sign " for me. I am very disappointed and have decided not to continue this venture, but will start my business when we move back to the States. Guest guest
Karen, The information they have given you should only relate to the certification of your products. The European cosmetic regulations do not lay down any qualifications for opening a business. You need to challenge these idiot Civil Servants hard to give you the law that they are talking about. Guest guest
Hi Martin, Thanks for your comments. It is the French cosmetic agency that is giving me a hard time. They hold us little guys to the same standards as the large cosmetic manufacturers. They told me it is not like selling vegetables at a market! My french is not good enough to speak with this very unfriendly woman at the afssaps so I let a french lawyer call for me. We wanted the UK Dr. Chem/toxicology who certified my recipes to sign as being responsible for manufacturing my soaps. Mme C. said we had to send copies of his diplomas to the french dept of educ to see if his english diplomas are equal to french diplomas! This is a slap in his face and I don't want to play this game. The Chambre de Métiers where I also have to register, said to start manufacturing and selling. but I want to do this the right/legal way and get approved by afssaps. If we don't move back to the States then I'll look for someone " appropriate " to sign for me. Right now my daughter just had a 9th surgery, so that is more important right now. Thanks for your concern, Karen in France
