Guest guest
Hi, I have a massage patient that I have seen every week for 3 years. She had just gotten out of the hospital with pneumonia when I met her, and she was diagnosed with CPOD. She never smoked and is 94. I was extremely cautious about using any essential oils with her, and since I do use them with many patients, I would schedule her first and wear fresh scrubs so that there wouldn't even be any aromas on my uniforms that might bother her. She is on oxygen 24/7. After about a year, I began using one drop of an oil and would wait to see if she had any adverse reactions and I would get reports from her live-in nurses. Eventually, after a long time, I began using more, but i'm still very cautious, because she already has a compromised respiratory system and thus her body and immune system are weak. Whatever EO you decide to use, I would make sure you dilute them well and start with a very small amount. I tend to use the EOs on her feet, and do gentle massage with her, while I hold the reflexology points, gently, as these are very sensitive, that correspond to her lungs, thoracic ducts, heart, liver, kidneys and spine. She almost always tells me that her breathing clears from this treatment. I have been using lemon, frankincense, peppermint and black spruce with her, and this helps, but if she is weak, and this happens sometimes, I will either skip the oils or just use one drop. We have to remember that to an already overwhelmed system, the oils may be too much, and more is definitely not better in all cases.
