Guest guest
Uhh thanks, I think ;-) Just want to clarify what happened: I returned the Sandalwood because I couldn't get it out of the container... your folks sent me a new bottle, it's great, and you made me very happy. No doubt I'll be purchasing from you again when it runs out. Maybe ylang ylang isn't for me... won't know until I smell some others. I'd still be interested to know if anyone else has experienced ylang ylang in the same way I have so far. -Josh
Guest guest
Hi Josh .. other good folks .. My first post of the day .. nothing personal .. just feeling ornery. > So... in a nutshell, the ylang ylang oil I have reminds me of ant > spray. I've never smelled any other ylang ylang oils, so I don't know > if it's all like this and ylang ylang just isn't for me, or if this > is a sign of an oil gone bad, or what. Depends more on one's olfactory interpretation, appreciation and expectation than it does on the oil itself. Just last week a person wanted to return a bottle of Oregano (Origanum vulgare) because they did not like the odor and it was " too warm " for them. This person had NEVER purchased Oregano before. Not liking the odor was very individual .. saying it was too warm meant they were using it is the wrong manner. This is a good customer so I said I'd take it IF they wanted to return it .. but I can only use it for samples now as I can't guarantee the integrity of an oil after it has been opened and I'm not going to pay for an analysis on one small bottle of oil. My position on samples/returns is clear on the top front page of my web site http://www.av-at.com/policies.html .. still, I've had 6 people want to return oils since I opened shop in 1999 .. a pretty small number but it is a pain in the ass for me when they ask because my employees are paid by the hour and I do offer samples. ;-) Josh, last year you purchased Ylang Ylang Complete and Mysore Sandalwood from me .. you later decided that you did not like the Sandalwood .. you wanted to return it .. I could not accept it for resell because of the integrity/purity issue mentioned above .. but I took it back because I wanted to make a customer happy .. mattered NOT (then) if the customer was right .. then (but not now) I only wanted to see them smile. Now I know that some folks can't be made to smile and it matters not how much you try to win their hearts and minds. In any case, I took it back and I gifted a person on this list with that Mysore .. and they thought it was the finest thing since sliced bread .. and if fact, it is. Mayhaps the Ylang Ylang Complete you have decided smells like ant spray could be from me .. and that matters not also as its a great seller .. to folks who understand what Ylang Ylang should smell like. ;-) For those who might be getting their knickers in a knot about me selling Mysore Sandalwood .. lemme say that Martin and other ultra idealistic Greens are showing you but a small part of the Big Picture .. same goes for Rosewood. Any who think they can/should believe all they read or are looking for purpose in their lives will disregard any information contrary to the positions shown by those who have dedicated themselves to so-called worthy conservation issues. If one wants to appear to be heroic and inflame the passions of those who are seeking purpose in life I can think of many more worthwhile issues they can adopt and/or support. Problem is .. support of those issues requires more than the passion shown in writing (regurgitating one sided positions) to the many newsgroups like this one. If people want to follow in the footsteps of giants and promote the ideals of life in productive ways .. there is some risk. True it is that its safer to do so with a keyboard while sitting in front of the boob tube of a PC monitor. ;-) I don't make a " living " selling essential oils .. its something I like to do so I do it well .. with proven quality and by trying to tell it like it is (or how I think it is) rather than how folks wish it were or how they want to hear it. I have no issues to promote - seals, whales and such are not a part of my marketing .. though this must be the case for those who have decided to make it a part of their modus operandi .. I don't fault them .. just don't agree with them. Its easy to make some folks believe the entire world is corrupt and driven by greed .. if .. they are bitter .. or don't have the time to do proper research. I know the entire world is not corrupt .. I've stood beside a lot of good folks during difficult times .. sleeping on the ground, crapping in a cat hole and bathing with a liter of drinking water while going through rubble caused by earthquakes or other disasters and trying to pull folks out before they expired from causes other than injury. Folks who are looking for a cause need to look around .. there are many out and about that are worthwhile .. and not so controversial. But it does require effort that some folks are not willing (or able) to give. So much for I-Net heroics~! Alternative/complementary treatment type news groups are bombarded with daily doses of idealistic truth that often have little foundation in reality .. but they sound great to those who are seeking a cause and have become passionate about the latest one thrown across their screen. Folks like me risk the wrath of those compassionate liberal folks. To date, I've lost no sleep over it .. and I doubt I will in the future. Back to Olfactory appreciation. If we all appreciated the same odors or appearances, etc., then there would be a shortage of some oils .. plus we would all be trying to marry (or bed) the same people. I've written a lot on this and there is much in the archive of this list .. so I'll not beat it to death here now. I will say that there are some who do not like Ylang Ylang of any kind .. but its one of my best sellers. I know two people who do not like the odor of Rose Otto (Rosa damascena), but that too does not surprise me. Matter of fact .. after having lived a few years and seen a few elephants from various directions, I doubt that I could be surprised by anything now. Appreciation of essential oils is a lot like appreciation of spouses. I have known some (male and female) that I could not spend 10 minutes with as I had this strong desire to tell them to get a life or drop dead .. and I have seen some males who had their heads in their asses cast aside ladies who I thought were as near to perfect as one could ever hope for. So .. trying to figure out why we like or dislike an oil is a lot like trying to figure out why some folks stay with Harpies and Trolls and others cast aside Angels. > Any ideas? Yep .. don't buy Ylang Ylang again. ;-) > -Josh Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com Who .. like I said, is feeling a bit ornery today .. so if I can find the time I will take on my buddy, Martin, over the Sandalwood and Rosewood issues .. and perhaps a few other issues too. ;-)
