Guest guest
Sevi - I was searching for some posts on doggie skin irritations. Having been thwarted by I went directly to your cybercanine site which I should have done to begin with but I thought others had posted on the topic as well. Anyway, your site is BEAUTIFUL! So is sevikay.com Looks great and the layout is superb. Love 'em both. So my question. Can I use VCO on Payton's minor irritation? It looks like he's been licking at a spot just at the top of his leg. The skin is just starting to turn that warning sign bright pink that it's being rubbed/picked at a bit much. No broken skin yet. TIA if anyone else has some thoughts too please. Dale Truth and fact aren't the same thing. ... It >looks like he's been licking at a spot just at the top of his leg. >The skin is just starting to turn that warning sign bright pink that >it's being rubbed/picked at a bit much. No broken skin yet. Is the irritation on the back leg or the front? Is he chewing only one leg or both? Many apologies, I am a bit tired (moving my business this week). Just want to make sure -- is the VCO you mention Virgin Coconut Oil? :-) If so, I would do a patch test before using Virgin Coconut Oil. Test it on a small area and keep an eye on it, if it irritates him in anyway, you can rinse it off. Personally, I highly suggest that you rinse the area with a very gentle wash and then apply some organic aloe vera on the entire leg. I use Organic Aloe repeatedly on my gang here. You can also dilute it with distilled water and put it in a sprayer bottle , which you can use as need. Aloe calms many irritations gently and is very soothing all around. If this rash is only on one leg and he has no other irritations anywhere, then I would also investigate the area/s where he sits, sleeps etc. If he was outside, perhaps he got bit buy a bug -- my Jack Russell has an insane reaction to mosquito bites, I have to dip him in Aloe and apply a salve to the area to calm it all down. Hope this helps -- please keep me posted. Many mad wags from my gang to Payton. Sevi
Guest guest
Glad I caught you! It is on his front legs in the same spot on each side. I am wondering if it has something to do with how he lies when he sleeps at night. We're bad...he sleeps on our bed and I wake up with a sore back. But the last couple of days of weather (you could swim to the grocery store and back it's that humid) have had us all so cranky that we must have ruffled his feathers and made him not want to be there. He's been sleeping on our hardwood floor. Would that make a difference in what to do? Yes. It's virgin coconut oil that I was thinking of using. I have some from Margaret that I've taken good care of. It's a great oil for human skin anyway!! Payton is huge now. 14 months old and 73 pounds of love. He goes EVERYWHERE with us. Sending your gang a round of butt scratchies from Payton. =) Get some rest! Oh..can you make an air freshener for the car that is pet friendly for those of us who are rarely seen without our dog(s) in the auto with us? *sigh* That is a draw back. Guest guest
Hi Dale, >It is on his front legs in the same spot on each side. I am >wondering if it has something to do with how he lies when he sleeps >at night. I know that my girl is allergic to commercial laundry detergents, so I have been making my own for a long time -- she used to get very irritated when she slept on her comforter or quilt. Maybe you can set a cotton sheet on the side he sleeps and see if this helps. If you can, wash this sheet with pure castile soap and keep an eye on the legs to see if they get better. >>But the last couple of days of weather (you could swim to the >>grocery store and back it's that humid) have had us all so cranky >>that we must have ruffled his feathers and made him not want to be >>there. He's been sleeping on our hardwood floor. I hear you about the humidity. It is a bit painful and I am looking forward to normal weather! >>Would that make a difference in what to do? I am not sure if I understood this question correctly, boy am I moving slower than normal today :-) If the irritation has appeared after he started to sleep on the hardwood floor, then yes -- that could be the cause. Again an aloe rinse and perhaps a mixture of apricot kernel and a few drops of Rosehip Seed Oil may help keep the area moisturized. I also use Turkish Rose Hydrosol on irritated skin, works wonders! >>Yes. It's virgin coconut oil that I was thinking of using. I have >>some from Margaret that I've taken good care of. It's a great oil >>for human skin anyway!! Virgin Coconut is one of my favorites -- though the aroma attracts my dogs and they do tend to lick it up. So I try to use oils like Organic Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernel or Kukui Nut. >>Payton is huge now. 14 months old and 73 pounds of love. He goes >>EVERYWHERE with us. I sure can. I will add this to my list of product requests and once moved and settled, I will tinker around with some ideas. Wags to Payton... Guest guest
Hi Dale, I take my dogs with me in the car a lot too. One thing I found was purely by accident. I made some soy candle tea lights and I left a couple in the car. The next morning my car smell wonderful just from the sun warming the soy wax. It's a thought you might want to try. I now keep little soy tea lights without wicks in my car all the time. Guest guest
Hi Sevi - That's a good thought re: the blankets we're using. We use fragrance free detergents and I double rinse because my 10yo has sensitive skin. You just reminded me that we double washed then stored this current top blanket through the winter. Maybe, just maybe I should rinse it again. Still, I'll put a cotton sheet on the bed for Payton. My son did put a dab of VCO on the sights yesterday. My son talked to him and told him not to " eat this " as he was putting it on the dog. Payton didn't try to lick it when it was on his skin but he did keep licking my son's hands afterwards. Payton is my son's dog technically so special care gets assigned to him with supervision. The spot looks better already. I'll try the hydrosol going forward. I do have Butch's rose hydrosol on hand. That's a staple here. I'll put it in a sprayer and spritz the sight? Thanks for the idea on keeping the car fresh Sally. I'll try it until Sevi finds us a solution. I'll just have to remember to take the candles out each morning. I'm afraid Payton will find them and think they are a chew toy OR I'll hide them away while he's in the car so he doesn't get to them then forget about them and well, you can picture it. Be well and thanks again for always caring. Dale Truth and fact aren't the same thing. ... Yes, you can use a sprayer bottle to spritz the area or you can use a cotton ball and just dab it on the itchy spots. >>Thanks for the idea on keeping the car fresh Sally.
