Guest guest
I have a problem. My son must have spilled something oily on the carpet a few years ago, I've cleaned it several times and it just keeps getting grungy. I lifted up the carpet today and the bottom of it has a big greasy circle. I sprayed it with an enzyme stain eater. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the grease out of the carpet? I was thinking maybe really hot water with some carpet cleaner in it and some essential oils to help break up the oil stain, which has done that gummy stickey thing now. This stain was started at least 4 years ago. What would break down the old oil? Guest guest
oh by the way, do not add water until after the soap has set for at least a half hour and you have rubbed it in enough with a floor brush to scrub it out ________________________________ on behalf of Kathy Stranc I have a problem. Guest guest
Hi Kat, It your carpet a light color ? If it is then maybe washing the area with mechanic's soap might work. I would be afraid to use that if your carpet had much color to it. You might end up with a lighter spot. On the other hand a lighter spot might be better then an oily spot. Guest guest
I moved into a house where the last tenants dumped lots of McDonald's french fries on the rug as they left. they sat there for 2 months before I moved in and the carpet was greasy. I brushed with hot water and Oxy Clean, then shampooed the carpet. All gone! Guest guest
Thats great information Would anyone mind telling which carpet steamer/cleaner is best for this purpose? I have a carpet that badly needs cleaning but not sure which steamer is best to buy. anne I moved into a house where the last tenants dumped lots of McDonald's french fries on the rug as they left. they sat there for 2 months before I moved in and the carpet was greasy. I brushed with hot water and Oxy Clean, then shampooed the carpet. All gone!
Guest guest
Thanks for the information. I used CitraSolv, ingredients: D-Limonene (Clear Liquid From The Peel Of The Orange) Orange Oil Biodegradable Surfactant (Derived From Coconut) I pulled the carpet away from the wall strip, scrubbed the back of it with Citra-Solv diluted with 2-3 parts water. I then put a garbage bag under the carpet to catch the water and saturated it with heated water. I scrubbed it with a brush really good, let it sit for 10 minutes, then put an old towel under the carpet and one on top and stood on it to take out the wet. Then I shampooed with Kirby's Dry Foam shampoo in hot water, and soaked it again, then toweled it again. Right now it is drying. I'll let you know how it looks tomorrow. This spill was done at least 4 years ago.....I keep cleaning the surface and it keeps coming back with a vengeance. When I pulled the carpet up, the back was greasy in a big circle about 14 inches in diameter. I figure this is my last shot or I'll need to replace the entire carpet, and I'd rather not right now, considering it's the side of the landing on the stairs, and really not a heavy traffic area like the middle of the landing would be. The rest of the carpet looks great. If I had a lot of carpet to clean from spills and kids, I'd hire a good steam cleaner and let them clean it. They have all kinds of aids for specific spills. However, most dirt is on the surface and my Kirby carpet cleaner does the job. I think it's only when the stain is caused by spills that go to the bottom of the carpet that you need steam cleaning.
