Rose Geranium and ticks...a question

This discussion of Pelargonium roseum and ticks has motivated me to make a

water-

based spray to use for hiking. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what

percentage to use that would make it effective, and safe? It would be used only

on adult

humans. I imagine it will be sprayed on both clothing and skin.

Many thanks,

Sarah

The way I make my bug spray, well, any spray really, is by diluting the

oils in alcohol (the alcohol is 25% of the final product). I have

begun using Fractionated Coconut Oil as well, and find it to work quite

well. When I have all the ingredients (I'm out of one right now), my

alcohol of choice is actually Sweet Fern Tincture, and I use Rose

Hydrosol as part of the water. I also include Flower Essences of

Yarrow, Hawkweed, Sweet Fern, Garlic and Angelica. So, here's the

recipe for a 4 oz spray bottle:

0.5 oz Sweet Fern Tincture

0.5 oz Vodka

0.5 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil

0.5 oz Rose Hydrosol

2 oz Water

Essential Oils:

Catnip 15 d

Rose Geranium 6 d

Citronella 8 d

Cedarwood 6 d

Oregano 5 d

Flower Essences:

Yarrow 5d

Yellow Hawkweed 3d

Garlic 4d

Angelica 1d

Sweet Fern 2d

I know it's not in percentages, but I hope it helps. I do use this on

kids and pets as well as adults, on both clothes and exposed skin.

I've found it needs to be reapplied every 30 minutes or so.

Good luck experimenting with your own formula! Feel free to buzz me

with any questions!
