Years ago I taught English horsebacking riding at a girls' summer

camp outside Wimberly, Texas. There I learned about the wonders of

sulphur soap. You shower as normal, then lather up again with the

sulphur soap all over. Then simple step out of the shower and pat

the lather dry.

No, there isn't an awful odor once it dries, in fact it's a rather

nice, clean-smell after it dries. This definitely helped repel

ticks, mosquitos and chiggers ... didn't do much for wasps, however.

Still, nothing beats a good, thorough search of one's self and one's

children after you've been out in the woods somewhere.

Sulphur soap now days can be hard to find. Big drug stores typically

don't have it (like Walgreen's). If you have a local drug store, one

that does compounding and such, they'll have it or can order it for

you. When I bought it (back in the old days) it was $.50 a bar ...

it's now $5.00 a bar. I also discovered that it was great soap for

teenage skin, cleared my face up beautifully. It's a must-have for

folks who are outdoors a lot!!

If you have a ....ethnic...(PC?) section in your store

you can find it for around .99 a bar.

Hi,

I remember back in the 70s when I went to summer camp they used to dust

powdered sulphur over our ankles and shoes to discourage ticks and such

during our hikes. I had forgotton all about that until I read your

post.
