Guest guest
Ahh the wax... something I was hoping to avoid this time around. I think I want to use some orange wax in the future. Has anyone been able to make a creamy lotion with *just* water, oil, & lecithin? Chris, would you mind sharing a basic recipe/method for what you describe below? -Josh >Hi Josh, > >I've done it with oil, beeswax, lecithin and of course the water phase. > >*Smile* >Chris (list mom) >http://www.alittleolfactory.com > > > > > > On Behalf Of Joshua Alexander > > >So when you use the liquid, you've successfully made creamy lotions >with no other emulsifier? > >-Josh > > > > > >

Guest guest
Thanks, I sure appreciate it. I did the same Googling... I'm ditching the granules, found where to get the liquid in SF. I wish I could find orange wax somewhere local! -Josh " Christine Ziegler " <chrisziggy Subj: RE: Lotions & Lecithin Thu Jun 30, 2005 1:44 pm Size: 1K Hi Josh, I'll gladly dig up my basic recipe for you Just give me some time to find it - I cleaned up the place and now I don't know where anything is *lol* *Smile* Chris (list mom - gonna get ready to head out to my Kwando class in a bit) http://www.alittleolfactory.com On Behalf Of Joshua Alexander Ahh the wax... something I was hoping to avoid this time around. Guest guest
Hey Josh, >Ahh the wax... something I was hoping to avoid this time around. I >think I want to use some orange wax in the future. > >Has anyone been able to make a creamy lotion with *just* water, oil, > & lecithin? Yes, it's possible but you'll end up having to shake it before using more often then not. What about mixing in a secondary emulsifier like xanthan gum or tragacanth gum or guar gum. The guy that wrote the book Making Cosmoceuticals naturally (or something like that) uses a lecithin mix to emulsify his recipes and always has a good amount of xanthan in there. Maybe a smidge of borax too would help keep it together. And as far as the creaminess I'd add a butter in the mix, shea or mango along with your oil. Guest guest
They're a bit of a drive north... given gas & time, it's probably worth it to order it... especially with a certain prebuy going on ;-) Thanks tho! -Josh >Hi again, > > >>I did the same Googling... I'm not one to give up, >but I hate to be so frustrated on the very first try <laugh> I am laughing too!! Only because I totally understand. I can't tell you how many flopped batches ended up in the garbage as I was trial and erroring my way to a decent lotion or cream. Talk about money down the drain! Ouch! And the book mentioned above is okay. He pushes his own lecithin blend which is outrageously espensive and I've yet to make one of the recipes that I actually like. I'd visit the local library and check out The Herbal Body Book, and other's along those lines. Can't remeber all of them, but once you're in the general area of books, you'll find lots with good ideas, formulas and such. If nothing else it's inspiring. Guest guest
>I'd visit the local library and check out The Herbal Body Book I can't believe the SF library doesn't have it. Well, I can... for all their huge size, I seem to have trouble finding books there ;-) Amazon shows two books by that name, one by Jeanne Rose, and another by Stephanie Tourles... which did you mean? -Josh
