Hi All,

We are building a home. At our new property the trees and all of the

ground is cover with either poison oak or ivy, and some sumac. My son

is very allergic to it. I dont want to use a chemical that would

prevent me from having an organic vegetable garden?

Any suggestion? thanks in advance for your time to answer this..

EveMary,

Did you get an answer to your poison oak/ivy question?

I've personally tried just about everything! From

goats to roundup (just once) to vinegar to salt to

fire.....

Vinegar worked best but did NOT kill the plants. It

merely slows their growth. At least here in the woods

of sandy Oklahoma.

Hi Folks,

I've heard NOT to burn them cause that can cause severe lung irritation

if the smoke gets inhaled at all, and that even in winter you can get a

rash from touching the dormant plants :(

Some eradication tips from About.com

Here is a BIG long thread on Gardenweb about eradicating poison ivy -

though most recommendations are not natural, you might still get some

ideas ...
