Hi Folks:

My newest quest is to find out a few things about Goldenseal. Anyone out there

extract it? Tincture it? If so.... do you extract while the roots are fresh or

dried?

2nd: Anyone ever made anything out of the tops? For some reason, for the last

few years folks are using the tops too. We' bought some 75 plants last year.

The guy that sells them will buy back the tops. The tops were missing when we

got the rootstock. He did not tell me much about how it's being worked up, and

I've got an inquiring mind that wants to know! Our roots should be ready this

year, as they were 3 year old plants when bought. Think they need to be 4 years

old to harvest. We're thinking of ordering more plants to have to do with.

The only extract I've made up was with a dried wildcrafted root. But, I have a

feeling that fresh would be much better. And..I oh so want to know about those

tops... tee hee

Went to the Farmers Mkt today. It's a small one in Middle TN that I go to for

certain things like Elephant Garlic, Shallots & such. Not too many crops coming

in as of yet, but got the first elephant garlic of the year and one bunch of

shallots among other goodies.

Two things I bought that were interesting were: A whole flat of Summer Savory

that was sown so thick it has hundreds of plants, and round basket of hundreds

of Roman Chamomile plants. Was sick and then injured this Spring and only have

one German Chamomile that was a surprise one come up, so I'm thrilled to have

found these. Also bought a clump of Bee Balm aka Bergamot Mint to plant. So,

all in all, it was a lovely day!

A most fragrant evening to you all,

deb
