Vanilla Extract Recipe[s]

Hi Folks:

Went to the files and read the recipe there, but it has sugar in it.

Sounds a bit like a homemade Kahlua recipe. Need a recipe without the

sugar.

 

Has anyone made Vanilla extract~without sugar~in a alcohol base? What

I have is straight with vodka, no sugar and smells stronger than

normal. Used about a lb of beans to a quart+ or so of vodka. Have 5

lbs coming and want to make a good strong one that I can play with for

a recipe that we will market that has a partial Vanilla base. Will

probably add glycerin later for market product, so definitely don't

need the sugar added. Plus I'm diabetic and can't use it with sugar in

it for the household use.

Hi Deb,

 

Just to give you an idea ... What is known commercially as single fold

vanilla extract is about 3/4 of a lb of beans (12 oz) per gallon of an

alcohol that is around 70 proof or so. 2X is double the amount of beans

per gallon of alcohol ...

 

For vanilla extract - I have a mason jar full off macerated beans that

just live in the alcohol *lol*

 

Sugar is just added to some " homemade " recipes cause folks have gotten

used to store bought vanilla extract which in a lot of cases has sugar

and/or corn syrup added so they can cheap out on the actual vanilla ;)

 

Have fun with your 5 lbs of beans - your house is gonna smell SO good!
