Guest guest
Some of you may be interested to read my latest web page: http://www.aromamedical.com/new.html This names a person in the Canadian aromatherapy scene, who despite legal warnings, has pirated information from the course notes that I license to IATA in Canada. I won't name this individual on this group for now, as that may be against group rules, but I would urge you to read the information on my site and see the name. Such nasty individuals need exposure to public scrutiny because they simply steal other peoples hard work and turn it into profit for themselves. This woman is not the only one doing this, but so far she is the first who has been foolish enough to push her luck with me. I hope readers here spread the word so that we can ostracize such people and point students away from their courses. In my licensed course notes we have these headings: HEALTH AND SAFETY DATA CONTRA INDICATIONS: VALIDATED MEDICINAL ACTIVITY. Please note the use of the term 'validated' where else in this trade do you see that term used? ROOM FRAGRANCE: BATHS: INHALANTS: FIRST AID: Under each of these headings, this woman has copied extracts from my course notes, into her own, often word for word. The selection of oils she covers is also identical to my own. Thanks for any support you can give in spreading the word. Martin Watt Any emails via my website email please not to this group one. Guest guest
That's really sad and what's worse this person has the gall to charge $2100 for her course the same thing I complained that the Australasian College was doing. To make matters worse, she's passing herself off as being a spiritual person (I got from her Goddess workshops). Not the firt time I've encountered people like that. I have a book on making dream pillows by Jim Long and while I was net surfing looking for soap supplies ran into a woman who had plagerised his book and instructions. I e-mailed him the website and he e-mailed me back, but he said he probably wouldn't be able to do any more than write her a nasty letter because I don't think he had the funds to really go after her. Hopefully you can resolve this matter. Michele Madison Robles

Hi Michele: Can you help clear up my confusion? Are these two different people/places? I'm really trying to figure out who these players are. You can reply privately, if you feel more comfortable that way. http://naturalperfumery.com The Web's Premier site for information on Natural Perfume for a great discussion group
Guest guest
Hi Anya, These two people are different. It's no secret that I'm upset with the Australasian College because they offer a correspondence course in Aromatherapy. I signed up for the course in 2000, but became pregnant and sort of shifted all my focus to the baby. At the time they charged me $1300 for the course which included the course materials, supporting books for reading material (a chemistry book by Williams, essential oil safety by Tisserand/Balacs, the practice of aromatherapy by Valnet and a medical dictionary), a video on aromatherapy massage, and oils. Last year I contacted them to start studying again and they had upped the price to $2200 and you get no books, just the oils. When I mentioned that I had been a student before and my circumstances, they offered me no discount or anything. I asked about the price hike and I was told that they were one of the most accredited schools in the country. I told them that aromatherpy wasn't a licensed or certificated field and they responded with what a highly accredited school they were again. That was when I did some research and found out about Martin Watt and decided to take his course which is far superior in regards to essential oils safety, information and research and much more price worthy. I admit that at first I hadn't properly done my homework and had believed much that was written in aromatherapy books and bought into the school the first time. I didn't know much about essential oil safety other than what is written in most books. Then you have these schools which teach herbalism, aromatherapy and other " holistic " health courses to people and their hype is real good so you really think you're getting something when they charge an exuberant amount of money for it, but after doing some homework you find that many of the people involved are not properly educated or licensed, have very little experience in the field and are not teaching enough in regards to safety or their safety information is not accurate. While studying with Martin I compared his course with that of the college's and found that much of their contraindications of essential oils are related to the internal use of the herb and has nothing to do with the oil, they supported using essential oils internally and found that the uses were attributed to the " herb " and not the essential oil. For instance, for Lemon oil they mentioned that it can cause irritation and sensitization and may be phototoxic - " use in moderation. " What does that mean? I don't know if their course materials have been updated since 2000, I would hope so.
