That's how I got sensitized. I beleived what I read. Most of the people writing the books come from a background of herbalism, not a scientific background. It's the dermatologists and the big perfumers and cosmetics companies... the major corporations, that have done the studies. and the herbalists (many of them) seem to either disdain the scientists and dermatologists, or truly not know. Guest guest
Mine too, but since I make products for other people, I tend to dilute the oil always. I have run into people who were allergic to Lavender and that's when I thought you could use it neat on the skin. Right now I'm taking Martin Watt's aromatherapy course and I have his Plant Aromatics. It's a lot of reading, but well worth it. It just makes you think that it's better to be safe than sorry. I don't recommend any neat oils and I never used Tea Tree neat, I never rread that you could. In regards to authors and info on the Internet, you have to be careful because many of these authors aren't even herbalists. It is my opinion that a trained herbalist would know that an essential oil use is far different than the use of an herb, if they don't then they weren't properly trained, yet I do have a couple of books written by herbalists suggesting the use of citrus oils in blends without any warnings whatsoever. Many aromatherapy authors copy off each other. Some have done correspondence courses and then decided they could write a book. Frequently, I have run into much plagerism in books and on the Internet to the point where you sometimes don't really know where the information really originated from. I'm really wary of aromatherapy books now.
