Thanks, Butch!!! That's an explanation I can surely remember for next time!

They were also asking $150 for 5 ml of sandalwood that smelled absolutely

horrific! lol

Hey Cindy,

Glad you survived. ;-)

> otto or absolute - period. Question #1 - is that a correct assumption?

Nope .. its incorrect. Rosa centifolia (for example) is NOT Rose Otto

but it can be a Rose Absolute .. but if its distilled its an essential

oil .. a rose essential oil.

Absolutes have been clearly defined here .. if an oil is distilled it is

an essential oil .. the term " Otto " is from Ottoman .. as is Ottoman

Empire .. as in the present day Republic of Turkey. And .. it pertains

ONLY to Damask Roses (Rosa damascena) .. and it IS an essential oil.

> Question #2 - if that IS correct, then how would one explain (I know -

> stuff they are peddling as essential oil is non-existent?

I hope you don't have that question now. ;-)

> essential oil ($150 for a mere 5ml) was steam distilled.

And .. $150 for 5 ml is a bit stiff .. like 200% or more what the price

should be .. and that is a fact!

Actually .. Rose Otto is hydro-distilled .. and that is the ONLY mistake

on my tale of production at the following URL .. I caught it long ago

but just failed to ask my web mistress to correct it. Check it out at

this URL http://www.av-at.com/distillation/rosadamascena1.html

Here is a URL with lots of good photos of wild aromatic plants of

Turkey .. http://www.av-at.com/stuff/triptoturkey.html

Martin Watt visited the Turkish Rose Fields in Summer 2000 - following

was published in the Winter 2000 edition of the magazine " Aromatica " .
