because the use of ANY essential oil, even the most benign, on broken skin

is a set up for sensitization.

I can't even POUR lavender (any variety) let alone use it any more. more

than a decade ago I used it neat on a skin ulcer.

Now, any contact at all gives me contact dermatitis.

it's not fun.

and sensitization is an immune system reaction...it's for life.

I might add that I have a soapmaking colleague who is so sensitized to

Tea Tree that she can no longer soap with it or have it around her.

She attributes it to years of neat oil use. I'm also running into

people with the same reaction to Eucalyptus.

I just ran into this with Lemongrass. It's one of the retailers who

carries my products.

I gave her a tester of a new solid perfume, one that had LESS than 0.40

percent Lemongrass. She had a mild, irritation reaction and

fortunately, told me about it so that I was able to reformulate the

product. We re-tested the new batch and she hasn't had any reaction,

thankfully.

Can't say I'm surprised when I come across folks who have sensitivity

and cross-sensitivity to essential oils. I've observed people just

pouring oils from large containers into smaller ones, spilling the

product all over themselves, the bottle, the counters, etc.

And not being too concerned...well, it's just essential oil, it can't

really hurt... is their attitude. STOP! It can be harmful, as all these

posts about NEAT use of oils have attested to recently, and repeatedly.

Sorry to rant, but safety first is really smart.

For you who don't know me, because I go for long periods of time

without posting, my mantra when I teach is: DILUTE! DILUTE! DILUTE!

Kindest regards~
