Guest guest
My husband is headed over to Iraq in Sept. and I want to make a shampoo bar and soap for him to take (and probably some of the guys in his unit too). Anyway, can anyone suggest some good EO's I could add that might help ward off insects. Not really sure what they have over there...someone mentioned sand fleas... I package the shampoo bars in round tins and am curious as to what affect the heat will have on them as well. We live in Alaska and it doesn't get very hot here so I have never tested that aspect. Thanks, Juliet
Guest guest
Hi Juliet, First off, I hope that your husband is safe in his journey and returns to you safe and sound. My daughter's friends have husbands over there and one of the main things they talk about is how dry their lips get because of the sun and sand. So you might think about some good lip balm for him to take. Tea Tree EO is good because it keeps all kinds of little bugs away. I make a de tangler spray in hair conditioner and use tea tree Eo because my grandson's school had 2 out breaks of head lice. Lice hate tea tree ! lol And I hate lice ! lol Also I have been told that Neem Seed Oil and Karanga oil repeals flying bugs and fleas and ticks. Neem stinks but karanga doesn't . Hope this is some food for thought. Guest guest
Sally, Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of lip balm for the guys! DUH that seems like a no-brainer....glad you mentioned it! I was thinking Tea Tree also. Don't really know anything about the other two oils you mentioned, so I will do a little research on them. Thanks again, Juliet > Hi Juliet, > First off, I hope that your husband is safe in his journey and returns > to you safe and sound. > My daughter's friends have husbands over there and one of the main > things they talk about is how dry their lips get because of the sun and > sand. Guest guest
Hi Juliet, Neem Seed oil is really good for skin problems . It is also used to repeal fleas in dog and cat products. The same with karanga oil. Put a little mowrah butter in the lip balm for extra soothing and healing. It is wonderful in lip balm ! Have you thought about making a spray sand flea repellant ? I was thinking about the bar type in the deodorant tubes but they may melt in the intense heat over there so a spray might be better. The guys complain about the sand fleas getting them around their ankles. Another interesting thing I learned is straight unrefined Shea butter kills mange on dogs. One of my dogs was sick and I saw that he had a couple of places where mange had started so I put a thick coat of shea butter on his skin everyday until it was all gone. It took 3 days to totally heal and kill. Smothered the little bugs. I am thinking it would work the same for those horrible pesty chiggers we have here in the south. Better then using nail polish I bet. LOL My hubby looked really silly last summer with pink nail polish dots all over his legs ! <grins> Email me privately if you would like a good lip balm recipe.
