MANY > great health benefits. Yerba mate is very well marketed, and yes, it has some good nutrients in it. BUT it is still a stimulant and not a good idea for most people. It can cause dehydration and adrenal burnout just like any other stimulant. I would not say it is calming to the nervous system at all. It is very well marketed with all the fad hype that so many things are ... Michelle www.greentaramama.com
Guest guest
Hi Michelle. Your website is beautiful! Hey, with all due respect, I do feel quite confident in saying that Yerba Mate is indeed calming to the nervous system. I've been in the Natural Products Industry for many years, and I understand marketing well, however I personally don't feel like the benefits of Yerba Mate are exploited with slick marketing strategies. As a midlife woman with adrenal exhaustion, I wouldn't use it or recommend it to anyone if I didn't feel like it was a safe alternative to coffee. On the other hand, if you don't use stimulants at all, I wouldn't suggest it. How do you feel about green tea? I find that FAR more stimulating than any Yerba Mate I've ever used. And, by the way, I will admit that I was once a rep for Wisdom of the Ancients (Yerba Mate & Stevia) which allowed me to learn a great deal about this wonderful medicinal herb, including many things that you'll never see in print or in marketing of any kind. Just sharing my opinion, while totally respecting yours. Michelle
Guest guest
Hi Michelle- nice name by the way ;-) > Hi Michelle. Your website is beautiful! hey thanks! it is about to undergo a major overhaul and actually become a fuctioning e commerce site! > > Hey, with all due respect, I do feel quite confident in saying that Yerba Mate is indeed calming to the nervous system. hmm- OK- my experience is very different- I have also seen (and experienced) the same kind of withdrawal from YM that can happen with coffee- headaches, exhaustion... I've been in the > Natural Products Industry for many years, and I understand marketing well, however I personally don't feel like the benefits of Yerba Mate are exploited with slick marketing strategies. I know the plant has many benefits and nutrients- probably they are best for Andean cowboys with strong kidney yang who are out working all day and eating a diet mostly of meat. Certainly not a good choice for menopausal women or many women at all, especially those who have had children. It creates heat in the body (hot flashes and flushing) Mateine does affect the system very similarly to caffeine, and thus creates liver heat and drains the adrenals(depletes kidney qi, yin and yang) > > As a midlife woman with adrenal exhaustion, I wouldn't >use it or recommend it to anyone if I didn't feel like it was a safe alternative to coffee. It may be a bit better than coffee- but some adrenal support and nourishment would be a wiser way to go! I would go for eleuthero, american ginseng, ashwaghanda... Yerba mate is going to cause depletion in the long run. Perhaps as a segue to a stimulant free existence, mate may be an ally...but dandelion and chicory coffee would be more beneficial, especially to those needing liver support (everyone!) On the other hand, if you don't use > stimulants at all, I wouldn't suggest it. > Right- absolutely! > How do you feel about green tea? I find that FAR more stimulating than any Yerba Mate I've ever used. > I dont feel it is more stimulating, perhaps about the same- but it is different energetically. Green Tea is cooling and clears heat from the liver. The caffeine content of green tea is lower than the mateine content of mate. Mate heats the liver and increases irritability, and can increase menopausal symptoms like dry throat, night sweats, malar flush > And, by the way, I will admit that I was once a rep for >Wisdom of the Ancients (Yerba Mate & Stevia) which >allowed me to learn a great deal about this wonderful >medicinal herb, including many things that > you'll never see in print or in marketing of any kind. Care to elaborate? I would love to know- as I did drink mate for 4 years- and am glad I dont any more! > > Just sharing my opinion, while totally respecting yours. Thanks, me too!
