Chocolate compound stops cancer cell cycle in lab

It is important to keep news items like this in proper

perspective.

Many ordinary healthy foods contain some ingredients

that help our systems to prevent disease.

Most of you will have heard of the cancer-preventing

qualities of the cabbage family.

For an extra strong boost use sprouted broccoli seeds.

A healthy diet with a variety of colourful plant foods

contains many substances that may eventually turn

out to be cancer preventing in some way.

But isn't it nice to hear that the right kind of chocolate can be part of that

healthy diet?

One perfect form of the divine food is ChocaMaca.

Organically grown, fair-traded chocolate enriched with

super-foods from 4 ecosystems and Rainforest herbs.

Every bottle sold helps the indigenous partners of

AHC to preserve their communities and the forest.

Chocolate compound stops cancer cell cycle in lab

18/04/2005 - A natural compound found in cocoa

deactivates a number of proteins that are probably

behind the continual division of cancer cells,

report researchers.

The compound pentameric procyanidin has previously

been shown to stop breast cancer progression in lab

studies but the mechanism was unknown.

Writing in the April issue of Molecular Cancer Therapeutics

vol 4, issue 4, pp537-46), a team from the Lombardi

Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University explain

that the compound appears to work on several different proteins

involved in the cancer.

Although the study was conducted in breast cancer cell cultures,

the finding could potentially apply to other cancers, said lead

author Robert B.Dickson.
