Happy Earth Day and Happy Birthday to me!! :o)

I've treated myself with some new fun things to play with on my day off.

Some new oils, hydrosols, waxes and some new books!! (yeah, I'm giddy)

Anyway, does anyone know much about how safe hydrosols are at room

temperature for short times?

What I've been doing is putting a small amount into a (sterilized) spritzer

bottle and keeping the rest in the refrigerator, just so I can have some handy

in my bathroom for skin care. I refill it about every week or so. I

haven't seen any problems but how do you know if the hydrosol has gone bad?

Thanks guys,

Terri

Hi Terri,

If a hydrosol is going bad, it gets " floaties " in the bottom -

Good gifts to treat yourself to :)

As long as they haven't been contaminated they should be fine at room

temp, especially if its only for a short time. It is always prudent to

refrigerate them, but if they've been contaminated the fridge isn't

gonna be much help anyway ;)

Sounds like a good way to do it. Always be sure to not pour any hydrosol

back into the " mother " hydrosol container, and don't touch the inner

caps and bottle rims, etc, or leave the bottles of hydrosols uncovered

for long. Those are all sure fire ways to increase the risk of

introducing contaminants.

You might see things floating in it, it might turn cloudy, it might

smell bad, or all of the above.

Also, please note when I say things floating in it, I don't mean regular

naturally occuring sediment. Hydrosols are filtered to get rid of

sediment , but over time small particles of the botanical matter will

form a sediment again and it'll have to be refiltered to remove them .

This is quite noticable in large containers of hydrosols - and yes, I've

seen the naturally occuring sediment in hydrosol that just came from

being tested 100% free of contaminants.

The floaty things in a contaminated hydrosol will be growing clusters of

living bacteria or fungus. Nasty stuff. I f you're ever in doubt ..

clean the toilet with your hydrosol, not your face ;)

Enjoy - make it last! I have a good friend who has been in the last year

of her 20's for 3 years now ;)

I had my nose in my new books all day yesterday (sylla sheppard hangar's and

the complete guide...by salvatore battaglia. LOVE IT. Now I just need to

find a way to make a living as an aromatherapist on the east side of

Indianapolis. Hmmm, that could be interesting, lol.

All my best,
