I live here cause my husband's job moved us here *lol*

Its nice - complaints are that it is WAY too hot and humid during the

summer and we have mosquitoes year round. Good things - citrus trees can

be grown here (even though I don't have any yet) and rosemary plants are

evergreens ... :)

Do I want to live here forever? Mmmm, probably not, but I hate moving

too, so I'm in no rush to uproot again. I'm a grumbly, critical Virgo,

so I'll always find a reason to dislike SOMETHING about where I am (but

at the same time I can always find good things about it too ;)

This is probably off topic, since it does

not directly concern oils and herbs.

However, it does affect what we can grow,

and our total well-being.

So if the list masters do not object, after

reading Rita Bohn's lovely story, I would

like to ask of all of us: why do you live

where you do?

Was it choice, chance, or necessity?

Do you love it or dream of being somewhere

warmer, cooler, wetter or drier?

I won't post my own till the listmaster OKs

the thread.

You know the old adage, becareful of what you wish for cuz you just might

get it? That's me sorta.

Well, I live in San Jose California. We live here because after spending 12

years in Sweden and England I was ready to come " home " . The husband was

miserable with his job so after applying for several jobs in CA (as that

seemed to be the most likely place for him to get an electronic engineering

job) he found one here.

Coming back to the states was a big culture shock. One wouldn't think so,

but I had learned to live and think differently and it was very strange

being here for a long while... still is some days.

The heat was hard to deal with. I wasn't used to it at all and I'm still

not. I don't like brown as a summer color and that's what one gets after

the first couple of weeks in June. Also, back gardens here are tiny. No

place for a decent garden. Veggie or otherwise. Unless you're one of those

super creative gardening types and I'm not. I'm all practicle, non

imaginative.

So my summer vegtables were limited to Tomatoes grown in a childs swimming

pool along with the occassional vine plant like pumpkins.

After being here six years, we are moving to the other side of the state,

in/near the mountains. It's 10 to 15 degree's cooler on average during the

summer (big diff between 80 and 95 in my books), greener and we'll be able

to get between 2 and 5 acres without much problem.

Also the area is extremely eclectic from engineers to tarot readers,

artists to ranchers, republicans to bleeding heart liberals. Also I

checked out the schools, they're mainly excellent!

So hopefully in a couple of months we'll be settling into a whole new

environment with some room to move and breathe... followed by a kitten, a

golden retriever, a couple of ducks, a few more chickens and possibly a

pygmy goat! WHEEEEEEEE!

I'm not a country gal at all, however I do like to garden and I just like

to be able to yell at the kids to go out side and not have to worry about

the neighbors and I like to shop, and fortunatly there are safeways, Ben

Franklin craft stores and 30 minutes down the road a Costco and if I get

really desperate, Sacramento is only about 45 minutes away... population of

the area is like 28,000. I'm looking forward to it ;-) (ooof! WHAT a run on

sentence... too lazy to fix it)

So there you have it...

Cheers!

Smart move!!!

We drove back over Yosemite, and I said

that if I had to live in California,

I would want to live in the foothills.

Where are you moving to?

And where in Sweden did you live?
