infusing dried Jasmine petals

Hi Tracy,

If you have petals that still have a nice jasmine scent I don't see why

you couldn't get some kind of scent through infusion, although it'd

probably be faint.

I'm trying to figure out how I want to extract and preserve the

wonderful scent of the jasmine sambac blossoms I have on my jasmine bush

here.

I also have star jasmine that might be nice to infuse or tincture or

enfleurage - Trachelospermum jasminoides - as it is also quite perfumy,

but its not a true jasmine - and you can't drink those blossoms in tea

;).

Anyone have a preferred method from experience with their jasmines?

Anyone ever do this? Do you get a Jasmine scent? I saw some at the

health store the other day and wondered how it would work. thanks

My preferred method is to napalm the suckers and then salt the earth so

they can't ever grow back again. I believe I have star jasmine and a more

obnoxious pain in the kiester of a plant hasn't come along... except for

Goose Grass! I'd prolly take the GG over the jasmine, at least it has SOME

use!

Is that what you were looking for?

ROFLMAO!

Hi Chris,

Tea is exactly how I used my sambac blossoms last year:

The blossoms dried on racks, indoors, for a day or two. Then a bottom layer of

a delicate, loose-leaf, darjeeling tea was poured into a tin. A number of

blossoms were added to the tin, but not so much that they were crowded, and none

touched the metal. Then that was covered with more tea. 2 layers total, with

tea on top. A double layer of cheesecloth was secured over the top with a

rubber band, and it sat in a fairly warm (hot sun and warm weather) place (out

of light). After a few days, I added the top to the tin, and didn't touch it

for a month.

The tea was delightful! The jasmine was subtle, not fake or perfumery like they

can be sometimes. I liked it so much, I repeated it with some of the other

herbs in the garden. The other teas where good (scented geraniums, lemon balm)

but none worked as well.

Cheers,

Christina
