I just found out that my email is being hijacked. This is really weird.

I thought things were just a bit slow everywhere but today I went to check

my outlook express addy (it's the one I use for college) just to see what

was what and found over a thousand emails that were being delivered there

from all my lists and private mail as well. From as far back as early

MARCH! I think it happens when I go off line cuz when I'm online mail seems

to be coming here but but but!

Anyone got any clues as to what I can do about this? I've not heard of this

sort of thing happening before. Just plain weird.

I'm now wondering if this is happening with my out going mail too cuz I've

sent notes out and not received replies.

>WHINE< Oh MAN!

Cheers!

Kathleen, I think you need to contact your ISP & ask themabout it -- at our

office we

had a similar thing but our ISP alerted us after 83 msgs went out that were

NOT generated from us -- you have been SPAMED!! & they are using your addy to

SPAM others

Hm. Not entirely sure what you mean by saying that you had email from

all of your lists....you mean you had emails that were sent from the

lists (like the digests here), or your email address was sending out

random emails, or?

There are viruses that will infiltrate networks and such and send

emails with the virus attached that look like they have certain

addresses, but they don't (my campus had one once...man was that

annoying). Essentially what this means is that people will get emails

that look like they're from you, and you'll get emails that look like

they're from other people, but they're not. The email addresses in

the " from " were faked. There are others that will hop into your

computer and send emails using your email address.

The first thing I would advise is not using Outlook. There are a lot

of security holes in it; you might want to switch to something like

Mozilla Thunderbird (and if you use Internet Explorer, to switch to

something else like Mozilla Firefox or similar as well, for the same

reason). You can get Thunderbird and Firefox at mozilla.org; there

are other browsers out there as well.

If this is on your college network, talk to whoever's in charge of

Information Technology there and let them know what's going on, and

see what you can do about it....
