Guest guest
Hey Melissa, > Just had to share this with everybody. After Nigella sativa was " herb > of the week " a few weeks back, I ordered some of the oil from Butch. > This past Sunday evening I was in the mood for a salad, so I went > foraging in my yard for a nice bowlful of dandelion greens...and a few > violets, both of which are very common in my " lawn " ! Much to my dismay, > I had absolutely no salad dressing in the fridge! I started eyeing the > bottle of Black Cumin oil that was still sitting on the counter...I > hadn't done anything except to open it for a test " sniff " (it has a > lovely warm nutty odor). Now, Black Cumin is actually an expressed oil, > not distilled..it's closer to being a " fixed " type oil than an actual EO. It is exactly a fixed oil .. not an Essential Oil .. its no different than the many cooking oils folks use in the kitchen .. except it has many therapeutic properties .. normal cooking oils don't have that. Black Cumin (Nigella sativa) is only found as a fixed oil because its a very, very, very low yield oil .. we did a small distillation on a few kilos and found that production cost of the distilled product would be over $2,000 a kilogram. > So I did something I would never do with a true EO...I dotted a small > drop on my finger and tasted it...YUMMY! (True EO I would dilute like > crazy in Olive Oil before tasting, LOL!) I drizzled about 1/4 tsp. > over my salad as a dressing...very tasty! And quite healthy, based on > all the info Chris posted a few weeks ago! Healthy it is .. there is a regular protocol in many Middle Eastern countries that requires ingestion of Nigella sativa .. lots of Arabic books on it and many are written by medical doctors. The seeds are used in many ways here in Turkey .. in salads and on breads .. and many folks here use the pressed oil to make salad dressings and as a flavoring for cooking. I have a good bit of information on Nigella sativa but I was distracted to the inth degree when Chris made it the Oil of the Week and just did not have time to post that week. > We'll probably be grilling out this weekend if the weather is nice...I > plan to do some homemade garlic bread by whipping a couple of > tablespoons of butter with a teaspoon of the B.C. oil, a drop of oregano > EO, and a small clove of finely minced garlic.... Sounds finer'n frog hair split three ways .. and I'll point out to folks that the B.C. she refers to above is still Black Cumin .. it is NOT .. Backhousia citriodora (Lemon Myrtle) which is commonly referred to as Bc and is also used in cooking .. but not as she described above. ;-) > Is it lunchtime yet? Pass the Black Cumin oil, please! Glad you posted this .. its a good idea and a tasty idea. And for those who might not know .. I am sorta the source for Black Cumin (Nigella sativa) as its a commonly produced product here in Turkey. One of the larger clearing houses for Essential Oils just asked me to price some for them today. Gotta few non order type e-mails from some of you folks that I must reply to .. and I'm working on them now. Been sorta busy as well as distracted lately .. nothing negative going down .. just intense. ;-) > -Melissa Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http:///www.AV-AT.com Wholesale/Retail GC Tested EO, Rose Products, Tested Hydrosols and other nice things shipped from our store/warehouse in Downtown Friendsville, Maryland .. population 597 and a few cats.
