Hello all...First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you

for your prayers and warm thoughts for my Mom. She had a lot of

tests done, and the results were better than we thought. She was

stabilized and finally downgraded and Friday the doctor let her go

home, but she still has tons more of tests to go through. We don't

have any definite answers on the aneurysm yet; she has to go see a

specialist for that, but the surgeon she saw through this felt she

was not in danger at the present time. We aren't too thrilled with

his management of her case, and are glad she is going to see a

specialist because this new doctor should be able to give us more

info. We still don't know what is the source of her bleeding, and

that is also been referred to another doctor for more tests, etc.

She is not out of the woods yet, but at least she is home and she

feels better about that. We are hoping whatever is going on with her

right now health-wise, has been caught early and she will be able to

have successful treatment. She is spending this weekend resting,

trying to catch up on the sleep she didn't get while in the

hospital...you know how that is.. one minute you are asleep, the next

somebody is in the room trying to get blood from you or someone wakes

you to give you meds, or to take vitals....that sort of thing. I

have passed on to her all your prayers and she is so grateful and

appreciative, and so are we. She is a tough little lady, and she is

well-loved by the whole community and they are all behind her and she

is just overwhelmed by everyone's kindness. My daughter is very

relieved her grandmom is home now and she got to talk to her and

feels a lot better now about all this. Me, I am still plugging

along, helping out wherever I can, supporting wherever I can, and

trying to be there for her as much as I can. Stupid allergies are

kicking in and each spring I want to take an ax to the tree outside

my bedroom..my eyes are so swollen and itchy and watery that I can't

see worth a darn, but I am taking the required allergy stuff and of

course, mom sees my wonderful-looking face first thing and thinks I'm

dying or something. She, Bless her heart, is more worried about us

kids than she is about herself.

Well, I think I am done rambling on here..but I do so thank all of

you for all your prayers for her, and I thank you for being there for

me, too!

love to all of you...you are so awesome!

I'm glad it so far isn't that serious, but you do have to stay on

these doctors' butts sometimes because they can be too lax about

some things and if they run tests and not find anything they often

aren't proactive enough to find out what the problem is, especially

if you have an HMO or a senior on Medicare. One of my favorite

shows on cable is " Diagnosis Unknown " which comes on Discovery

Health. Recently they had a woman on there who was feeling ill,

tired, fatigued, bleeding in her stool. For 5 years they kept

testing her for everything under the sun, but she kept being

persistent and finally it took one doctor with a clue to do a

colonoscopy on her to find out she had a tumor in one of her

intestines and unfortunately, it was malignant by the time they

found it, but they got it just in time before it spread.

I hope for the best for her and stay on their butts to find out what

the problem is.

Hi..finally getting my messages caught up. I agree with staying on

their butts..this surgeon is not on our list of favorite people after

this. He had started the procedure on my mom to determine the source

of her bleeding and he stopped the procedure after he found the

suspected aneurysm. He then admitted her to the cardiac care unit

and put her on every monitor they had, you know how that is, and told

us this was extremely serious, she was in extreme danger, and set up

all these tests, ultra sound, cat-scan, x-rays, etc. We had discussed

transferring her to the main hospital around here, but at the time it

was better for her to stay there, have the tests, then go to the

bigger hospital. So we waited for the test results and we waited,

and waited. My sister finally pinned the doctor down and asked him

about what was going on; she told him she had all the relatives

wanting to know the results..and you know what he told her? He

actually said this... " Why do they want to know? It's not their

business. " Not a good thing to say to my sister, who had been up all

night wondering and worrying. She reamed him up one side and down

the other. Then this idiot proceded to tell her that now he isn't

sure it was an aneurysm at all...!!!!!! So she said she wanted a

second opinion. This man then told her she couldn't do that. Yeah.

right. Anyway..we got the films and all in our hot little hands and

got mom out of there and now have her lined up with different

doctors. This doctor, the idiot, is looked on as next to God by a

whole lot of people but believe me, that is not how I see him now.

It just another example of how I really wonder where and what our

medical system is headed to. We pay all this money for health care

and for what? The one thing I am grateful for throughout all this is

that if there is an aneurysm, we might have caught it early..and I

have already vented my own anger, frustration over all this and I am

not going to dwell on that..it will not help my mom, it will only

just add to her distress. We just want to get to the bottom of what

is causing the bleeding and have that aneurysm possiblity thoroughly

checked out, and that is what we are doing. Thanks for letting me

vent, again. I just get angry when I see this sweet, little lady,

someone who is so loved by this whole community, one of the nicest

people I have ever known, have to go through all this because of a

total idiot...surgeon or not!

I'm so glad you all got her out of there. Sometimes when these

doctors have this " god " reputation, they can become a bit too

complacent in their attitudes and think they are too good to just

admit that they don't know.

I could go on and on about the healthcare in this country. I'm

helping my mom and dad find supplemental insurance for their medicare

and I'm just horrified with the figures. For my mom and dad they

would have to shell out $375 a month for supplemental insurance.

That's more than I pay for me, my husband and my two kids. And that

doesn't have anything to do with prescription drugs. I think if all

of us just refuse to purchase insurance and go on strike, they would

be forced to make changes. Okay, now I'm venting about something

that has nothing to do with the situation.

I'll continue sending your mom healing vibes.

Cherry,

Your Mom is so lucky to have such good advocates!

I like the idea of a patient strike. Brilliant.

This whole system is going completely nuts.

Lest we forget, people frivolously suing also plays

a part.

We watched " Supersize me " over the weekend.

And much though I dislike the fast food industry,

I really don't think suing them is the answer.

In order for sanity to return we have to create

room for honest human mistakes.

If a doctor is faced with the loss of livelihood

whenever she admist to a mistake, well,

she is less likely to admit to being a mere

fallible human being!
