Guest guest
Your son might do better avoiding the hot compresses with ANY essential >>oil .. and going with a safe dilution of ..... I have to completely disagree with this statement. Rosemary and lavender, provided they are used in the proper dilution for a compress, are perfectly safe and quite effective for relieving muscular aches and pains. So are many other essential oils. Yes, the moist heat from the compress will enhance penetration of the EO's. Again, provided the appropriate dilutions are used in the compress, this should not cause dermal irritation, and is actually quite desirable in terms of treating muscle and joint pain. More to the point, diluting EO's with a carrier oil and then covering the area of application afterwards will also enhance penetration. Of the oils suggested in the previous post, the one most likely to irritate the skin of a sensitive individual in this situation would be black pepper. The rosehip seed carrier mentioned could certainly be used, but is quite expensive relative to other carrier oils, not particularly absorbent, and is generally best reserved for situations where skin repair (from sun damage, surgical incisions, etc.) is desired. Other possibilities: sweet almond, apricot kernel, grapeseed or macadamia nut oils. The use of aromatic hot and cold compresses is nothing new or wildly dangerous, and is commonly taught in many aromatherapy classes, skincare/beauty schools and massage schools. Heated aromatherapy body wraps are popular offerings in many upscale spas and salons. I frequently use compresses in clinical practice with excellent results... for sore muscles, muscular inflammation/tears, arthritis, bruises, fever, edema and sprains... to name just a few uses. Guest guest
Thank you for the information Katharine. ) He really does enjoy the lavender/rosemary mix. He asked for it again tonight. I suggested to him that I would pick up a few other things to try something different and he said " as long as they work as well " He really seems to like the rosemary and asks for it quite often. I have just started out and have only really explored 6 different oils so far. ~Michelle~
