Guest guest
Hi Michelle, > I had a question about using Rosemary. We should speak Chemotype when we speak of Rosmarinus officinalis .. and this case .. the misinformation you are quoting below is regarding the Chemotype Cineole. > I learned that Rosemary can not be used with people that have high blood > pressure as it is a stimulant. (also 1st 4m of pregnancy & epilepsy) There is absolutely no credible information anywhere to be found that points to Rosemary causing an increase in blood pressure .. there is a lot of misinformation on this and once we make a false claim in this business we find that those who are the supposed experts but who don't do proper research keep repeating it like a parrot .. many of the novels on Aromatherapy that regurgitate previous information as if it were true but in all cases they give no references .. then (unfortunately) the AT teachers want to cover their butts so they then regurgitate this wrong information. As for epilepsy .. there is credible information showing that Rosemary was once used as a valid treatment to preclude seizures .. but somewhere along the line some person left out a word or corrupted the meaning and now Rosemary has the bad (and incorrect) rap of being a cause of seizure activity. > My daughter has a heart condition and I am assuming high blood pressure > is part in parcel. My oldest son has found that a hot compress with > rosemary and lavender is very helpful to his strained/sore muscles when > he is injured in hockey. Your son might do better avoiding the hot compresses with ANY essential oil .. and going with a safe dilution of Lavandin (Lavandula hybrida) and Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) .. or .. better still .. a safe dilution of Corsican Helichrysum italicum and Rose Hip Seed .. with a tiny tad of German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) included. > My question is... Is it harmful for my daughter to be in the house when I > am using the rosemary as she would be inhaling the rosemary in the air > from the bowl of hot water and rosemary I use with the compress? Have you ever (outside the AT community) heard ANY precautions from ANY source on avoidance of Rosemary? From the FDA, AMA or your own doctor? The answer is NO! My daughter, Pamela, has suffered from controlled seizures since age 2 .. she is now 30 .. so I understand your desire to avoid anything that could worsen the condition. Check the following URLs ...
