Dante's second level of Hell, hereafter known

>>as Houston. ;-)

I have no idea what downtown Houston is like,

but we drove an ancient Subaru all the way from Nakusp, B.C. to the outskirts of

Houston two years ago, near Katy, and I loved it there!

Mind you, we were careful to not talk politics

with any local. And our relatives lived in a very

nice upscale neighborhood a big yard and

lots of trees everywhere.

It was the beginning of April.

All the wildflowers were blooming and it was

merely pleasantly warm, just a bit sticky.

So maybe we got a flattering view of the place.

But any state that has the good sense to seed the

median of a big freeway with winecups and

bluebonnets has something to say for it.

Our nephew took us to see alligators in Brazos

Bend state park, as well as more birds than you can

imagine, and meadows full of more flowers

in a state park in Washington on the Brazos, in hilly country that reminded us

of the Eifel or the Ardennes.

Funny thing: the flat green country on the way to

Brazos Bend park reminded me of Holland.

Green space with big deciduous trees and similar

close-to-the-ocean sky. The last thing I expected

from Texas!

We took the long way home, and saw Big Bend

national park with all the cactus flowers blooming.

It is one of my most favorite places ever.

But to come back near Houston....the gardening

must be superb!

Since that is where you are Christine, enjoy it.

And don't forget to take a trip to see the birds

and the alligators.

There is a great playground for the kids and lots of shady places to rest.

We found the people were sooo friendly. Like I

said, we didn't talk politics...

This reminds me of the time I was in Reno with the family... This Man

struck up a converstion from me... we did the " Where you froms " and he said

Texas, then he asked me point blank on what I thought about Bush... I

hemmed and hawed and didn't want to say anything (bleeding heart liberal,

so you KNOW my views on that turnip), well I just about bust out laughing

when he said " We hate him! " Folk will surprise you from time to time. He

sure did me! After that we had a fun few minutes Bush Bashing. LOL!

(Soooooooo far behind in me mail!)

Cheers!
