Oh shoot, I could have sworn it was somewhere

in there with the standing on guard bits.

OK, I stand (not particularly on guard), corrected.

Hi Ien,

Please tell me where in " Oh Canada " those words appear? I meant to say

where in " O' Canada " do those words appear? ;-)

" O' Canada " has gone through many changes and renditions over the years.

All of them mentioned forbidden words .. like " God " and " Holy Cross "

and such.

I checked all the older versions and couldn't find " From Sea to Shining

Sea " in any of them .. however, one of the latest versions .. from a

1908 poem by R. Stanley Weir, does use " From East to Western Sea. " ..

NOT .. " From Sea to Shining Sea. "

The official lyrics of " O' Canada " are:

O Canada!

Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Of course .. there is also a French version.

> So, should the pretty sea shells and creatures have

> evolved into a beaver?

As the above was not officially proclaimed to be the Canadian National

Anthem until 1 July 1980 ... and the American National Anthem was

officially adopted by Congress in 1931 .. based on the original 1814

version by Francis Scott Key .. and the song. " America the Beautiful "

was adopted in 1913 .. maybe the Beaver should turn into an Eagle. ;-)

" From Sea to Shining Sea " is not mentioned in our National Anthem .. its

in " America the Beautiful, " written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893 then

she did a final version in 1913 and it remains unchanged.

America the Beautiful - 1913

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet

Whose stern, impassioned stress

A thoroughfare for freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God mend thine every flaw,

Confirm thy soul in self-control,

Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife.

Who more than self the country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the enameled plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till souls wax fair as earth and air

And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,

Whose stern impassioned stress

A thoroughfare for freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America ! America !

God shed his grace on thee

Till paths be wrought through

wilds of thought

By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale

Of liberating strife

When once and twice,

for man's avail

Men lavished precious life !

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till selfish gain no longer stain

The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till nobler men keep once again

Thy whiter jubilee!

As is the case in many " enlightened " societies today, " God is forbidden!

In the US the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed

in many U.S. public schools anymore because the word " God " is mentioned.

A kid in Arizona has written a NEW School prayer.

Though I am not a practicing Christian, I like it.

Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow,

Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's " inappropriate " to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such " judgments " do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
