Guest guest
I wanted to let all the folks involved in the vanilla bean co-op know that the vanilla beans have arrived .. Also, because it was so successful, I was able to bump us up one notch to get the longer beans for the same price! All of the vanilla is shipping out this week. I hope everyone enjoys it *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
Hi Chris, I'm sorta new here, you can email me offlist if you want with this... but - what do folks generally use them for - I've been contemplating having a stash for kitchen use - how get involved in the co-op? I posted this " publicly " in case there are other inquiring minds. Well, the vanilla bean co-op has already passed, but always keep an eye out on this list for co-ops I'm going to do. Next one will start after I get this vanilla and tea seed oil co-op wrapped up. It'll probably be on some good stuff like Orange Blossom Wax and Hawaiian Red Sea Salt. Looking into Helichrysum oil too! > I posted this " publicly " in case there are other inquiring minds. Always a good thing to do. Gotta figure if you're wondering, someone else is too That is why I answered publicly too > Michelle in Cleveland *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
Guest guest
MAHvelous!! Thanks for the warm welcome and all the other info... yes I'd be interested. Other goodies very exciting... the helichrysum as well, but I buy in teeny quantities as a newbie. I will watch for upcoming co-ops. This is a new experience to me, and if there are others who are new to the co-ops, if you can refer us to an info source for how they work, that would be wonderful. Chris, this is a great list. Love reading it and participating. - Michelle Christine Ziegler [chrisziggy] Tuesday, February 15, 2005 5:03 PM RE: Great Vanilla News > Hi Chris, Hi Michelle > I'm sorta new here, We're definitely glad to have you aboard > you can email me offlist if you want with this... Guest guest
Chris, how are the Vanilla beans used? I did not bother because I did not know how to use them. Now I wish I had some just to try to make vanilla like vanilla extract to put in baking. Maybe it would make good tea. sharon

For some reason I thought you were doing the co-op to get a good sized stash into your shop for sale (big duh here!) Chris, I had to spring for a professional dye job (read color correction) after I succumbed to the marketing of L'Oreal and bought a box. (oh, look at that... another big duh here!) Anyway, I had to do that over buying the vanilla (darn! still dreaming about what I was going to do with that vanilla!) I hope to see another vanilla co-op soon then. Can that be expected? Guest guest
When I was on vacation, we went to a Vanilla Bean Plantation -- very interesting stuff! I had no idea how much effort goes into rooting, caring for, hand-pollenating, massaging, etc. to get good creamy beans. The guy told us that we could just stick the vanilla beans in a container of sugar and leave it there for a couple of months, and then the sugar would take on the aroma and flavor of the vanilla. The men in the tour group seemed most interested in the fact that you could make vanilla extract by sticking some whole beans into a bottle of rum and leave them there for three months to get your own vanilla extract. (They were most most interested, I think, in his comment about not tasting the rum mid-steep or you'd find yourself drinking all the vanilla rum!)
