Hello!

****This is posted with the List Mom's permission!

(Thanks Chris!)****

My grandaughter's 2nd grade class is having a contest to get out of

state postcards. They are currently learning about maps, most

importantly about our United States map. Would you please send her a

postcard from your state? She has two weeks to collect as many

postcards from other states as possible. The project will end February

4th, 2005. Here is the address...

Does she need them from different cities or tourist spots? I'll be all over

the state of Florida in the next week - From Cape Canaveral to the West site

of Lake Ockochobee and a lot of points in between. Does she just one or

bunch?

I was going to send one, but then

I noticed the project was meant

to show them the map of the USA.

We don't want to encourage any

ideas.

Hi Patty and Ien,

Postcards from anywhere in the world will count, as it is a whole

map project, but the main focus is on the USA. One from any state would

be wonderful, but from different areas of each state/country are helpful

too. They will be plotting out the cities within the states and any

other countries that are represented with a postcard too.

I really appreciate you taking time to send even one. I think my

grandaughter may be at a slight disadvantage in this " contest " since all

of our family lives there in the state of Washington, except for us

living here in New York state. I was worried that she would only have

the postcards from NY and no where else, so I hoped maybe some on this

list might be willing to help her.

Thanks again!

Hi Deanna,

My son had a project like this a few years back and I asked members

of the idma list to send postcards. We received postcards from all over

the world!! Many of the people on that list are also on this list, so I

am

sure you will get many! My son was so proud to show his classmates

these cards. They learned a lot from that experience. After the project

he brought all his home and still has them in a shoe box in his room.

Your grandaughter will receive one from us here in Ohio!!

Hi Deanna,

I will certainly try to find a few. I live close to the TN/GA border....so

perhaps I can send one from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. :)

I will look this weekend, to see what I can find.

Hi Laura,

How wonderful that your son still keeps his postcards. I hope

Desiree will get to keep hers too. I have not heard what they will do

with them when they are finished with the project, but I would imagine

she would get to keep them. Several people on this list have already

said they would send her a postcard. She will be so happy and so

surprised. It is so nice to belong to a list where people are so

helpful and sharing - in more ways than I knew already. :-)

Thanks Ien!

Bow, WA is a little flyspeck of a town between Mt. Vernon and Samish

Bay. I am in complete agreement with you - Washington is a very

beautiful state! I was born and raised there. So where is Nakusp?

Near Vancouver? My hubby and I spent our honeymoon in Victoria over 21

years ago, and it is gorgeous there! My grandmother was from Alberta,

but I have never visited there as yet. Maybe someday....

Thank you Jocelyn. She will be so surprised to get them from so far

away! Seven year olds don't get a lot of mail, you know, so this

project is exciting for them in even more ways than the educational

benefit. I wish I were closer to her to be able to see her excitement

when they come.

Me too, but from Conroe. Will try and find a card with the Lone Star Flag on

it, as Conroe is where the first Lone Star Flag was made and flown.

Anita

I'll be sending some from Texas.

Hi Kathy,

I live east of Cleveland, near Amish country.

Not too far from you, if I remember correctly. You are near Cedar Point,

right?

I think I have some Amish country scene postcards that I can send her.

I have e-mailed friends and family in OK, AR, CA and I'm in Texas,

so hopefully she will be getting cards from those states too!

I know where Bow-Edison is. I grew up in Arlington.

Moved to upstate NY about 2 years ago and you couldn't

pay me to get back.
